You remind me of the eager enlistees in WW-I and WW-II who were worried that the fighting would be over before they had a chance to get in on the action.

There were probably people thinking similarly in August of 1964 after a little incident known as Gulf of Tonkin.

I truly hope that I am wrong, but I honestly feel that 10 years from now this Iraq adventure will be looked upon with the same amazement and disdain that we apply today to the debacle of Vietnam.

Oh, we'll "win" the war, no doubt, if by winning you mean we'll blow up more tanks, kill more soldiers, and destroy more infrastructure than the Iraqis do. But the long-term price we pay for this pyrrhic victory will be staggering.
