Definitely - I have one CD player which is generally brilliant, and always works with commercial CDs, but to get it to play any of my home-made compilation CDs I need to burn at 2x or less. Admittedly I tend to do that most of the time anyway for my backups, as they do tend to last a lot longer when burned at low speeds.
