A good company with a little luck and some spiffy advertising can create a market. We all know the portable mp3 market existed before IPod, but Apple brought it mainstream. I'm convinced a good company with a good product could do the same for an automotive player (even if it's merely a portable that installs in-dash).

The bigger problem is that the auto manufacturers are making it much harder to integrate after-market audio into the dash these days.
