Another trick that you might use is to create a matte that is the identical color (or nearly identical) to the background that you intend to use. This allows one to keep the anti-aliased effect and still blend the image into the background.

For example, I just picked a nice dark blue color (Hex: 001F56) and used it to assign the matte fringe around the image (see attachment).
