Charleston, SC is a fun historical city. It's a lot like New Orleans, but less run down. Historic Wilmington, NC is similar.

You should definitely check out the different types of barbecue from Georgia to Virginia — mostly North and South Carolina's.

Raleigh has a nice art museum, if that sort of thing interests you. There's a turn-of-the-century carousel in one of our parks.
