The empeg isn't designed to be mounted in the trunk-- without being able to see the display, you can't control the unit. There are other trunk-MP3-changer products on the market if that's the route you want to take. They're not as good as the empeg, though.

The pocket under the climate controls might be too small. You've already stated it's too narrow, and I'll bet that it's not deep enough either. If you're serious about putting the empeg there, I recommend geting a custom installer to do the work for you. There are some stereo shops which specialize in that sort of custom-mounting work.

From the looks of things, you should really be considering putting the empeg in its intended location, replacing the factory radio.

This isn't as big a problem as it sounds. You can get adapter kits that allow the empeg to be mounted attractively and securely in that location. Any professional installer will be able to help you with it, or you can get the parts and do it yourself.

This also solves the problem of trying to integrate the empeg with the factory radio, which is usually a big pain it the rear anyway.
