I should add, there was a brief discussion on the differences between opnSense and pfSense in another thread on here -- it was Shonky who tipped me over the edge toward opnSense.

Just be a little careful - there are some quite cheap routers they sell but they are a bit underpowered particularly on VPN performance in the days of gigabit home internet connections.
