I’ve got a new Windows 11 issue in recent weeks. The Start Menu loads completely blank, just an empty dark grey rectangle.
Opening and closing it a few times fixed it.
I find this representative of the basic functionality of Windows nowadays. The search still doesn’t reliably present local applications as prominent results (or even show them at all in some cases) when you are typing the actual name of the app.
It possibly only happens using RDP, but that doesn’t let Microsoft off, I’m using their RDP client to connect to their OS.
Mind you, searching for installed apps is one areas Apple needs a kick up the arse on. It is insane that iOS doesn’t use the metadata it has on the app to help find apps.
An example, I have an app for the Bluetooth level sensor on the gas bottle on our campervan. But I can never remember what the app is called. You’d imagine searching for “gas” or “sensor” or “Bluetooth” might find it, but no.
The app is called Tank and the company name is Mopeka and as far as am aware those are the only two search terms that will find it. So I now have a Shortcut named “Van gas” that launches the app, so I can search for “gas” or “Van”. I have this for a few rarely used apps now.
