Hey everyone... well, this is the error I'm getting when I try booting. The whole system hangs at the boot logo and everything after the "init(1): memory violation..." repeats itself a bazliion times. I'm running a fresh copy of the b2.11 developer version on a Mk2a unit, no hijack installed. Any ideas what this means and how to fix it? Man, it sucks not having music in my car!

Greetings!

Have you tried to reflash with a fresh kernel? You might want to download a new copy - perhaps your local copy is corrupt. Another possibility would be to run a memory test.

Well, I was having the problem with my previous version of the software, so I downloaded a new copy (this time the developer version of b2.11) and reinstalled it... problem didn't go away.

How do I do a memory test?

Greetings!

Do a control-T on boot.

Tony, I was doing a few casual searches in the FAQ, but I didn't see the boot up diagnostics there. Is this something that you would like to add?

Tony, I was doing a few casual searches in the FAQ, but I didn't see the boot up diagnostics there.

It's part of the section about how to use Hyperterminal.

My suspicion as to the problem on this player: It might have something to do with IDE because the memory error happens at "probing primary interface".

It also might be a bad ".upgrade" file that was corrupted during download.

hmm.. I have tried using two different versions of the .upgrade (both the consumer and developer image of b2.11), and the both had the same problem. So I don't think it's too likely that both got corrupted in the same manner during download. I also installed a fresh copy of Emplode, so I doubt it had a problem either. I needed to change the location of the IDE ribbon a while back to get rid of the "no hard drive" error. I could definitely see how a bad IDE cable would be possible, as it's already established that I got one of the dodgy ones. I'll ask support if they'll send me a new cable. As an alternative to having them send me one, are these common components that I could pick up at a computer store, or are we talking about custom components? Before I give up and order a new cable, are there any other sources of this error that you can think of? I'd hate to wait for a few weeks to get one and have it not solve the problem!

Thanks again for all your help, guys

-James

Are you running a single or double drive unit? Have you tried swapping the (single drive only) connector or double check the jumper (double drive only)? Also, check the alignment of the cable (no chaotic evil jokes, please), make certain it is seated correctly on the connectors.

I'm running a single drive.. I already swapped the connector when I got the "no HDD found" error. The cable appears to be seated correctly on the pins. I think I may just need to get a new cable!
