What is you favorite brand of beer?

I like a beer made local around here called Red Oak. It is made by the folks in Greensboro, NC that used to own the Spring Garden Restaurants.

When I was in the US recently, I found that I was mostly drinking Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

The Kingston Arms in Cambridge has a really nice Red Ale on tap at the moment (at least they did on Friday night before myself and some of the crew here made a large dent in it).

I have two "everyday" beers depending on my mood... I pretty much alternate between Yuengling Lager and Labatt Blue depending on whether I'm in a "dark" or "light" beer mood (not to be confused with "lite" beer.) For a change of pace, I like the occasional Bass Ale or a Carlsberg.

In order of preference:

Anytime Beers
1) Celis White, sadly no longer exsists
2) Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
3) New Belgium Fat Tire

Tie one on beers:
1)Chimay, red white or blue it doesn't matter
2) New Belgium Trippel or Abbey Ale
3) Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale (Hops explosion!!!)

For the "Gentlemen's Clubs"
Any "Ice" beer because at those prices I want my biggest bang for the buck!

At places where I know I can get a good draw -- the kind where you have to wait five minutes before it's ready -- (which are few), I drink Guinness, but never in bottles or cans.

Otherwise, it depends on what the establishment offers. I used to abhor all Mexican beers, but I've found that Negra Modelo is pretty good if forced into a Mexican beer (usually at Mexican restaurants, which seem to offer them and standard American beers, which I never drink).

If I'm going to buy something at the store, I usually just get something I've never heard of before, to expand my horizons.

I would kill for Yuengling. It is by far my absolute favorite. I am a bit picky about beer. Here is the list of beers I consider superior:

• Yuengling (all varieties are good. Lager is the default)
• Samuel Adams (Sam Adams Light = no good)
• Kirin Ichiban
• Labatt Blue (out of the tap. Bottles not as good)
• Labatt Ice
• Molson Export
• Molson Canadian
• Molson Ice
• Peroni (only if eating at an Italian restaurant)
• Tsingtao

Frankenheimer (dark), Pilsener Urquell (light) try it and have fun!!!

Rob, can you get Yuengling on tap where you're at? Here in PA it's quite easy to find it, but I'd imagine it's harder in New York.

I usually go on a hunt for the local microbrews to find something I like, either that or hunt out bars etc that have something other than miller or bud. But that sometimes means waiting for a local beerfest.
I love english Directors, real Bass, Pedigree, Black Sheep. The problem is that with most of the really nice english beer is that they have to kill it to export it, so the Bass you can drink in the USA is a pale shadow of the real thing.
In NJ I loved Flying Fish or Riverhorse beers which I found at the NJ Craft Brewers festival in Waterloo.
In Austin we have some great places such as Fados or the Dog & Duck which have casks of Fullers ESB or Bellhaven Scottish Ale.
Locally made, Live Oak do some nice beers and I have a soft spot for Shiner and the many micros. But there are so many decent beers here I haven't got through them all.

In my usual hang they only have it in bottles, but there is a bar that has it on tap in Stony Point (5 minutes away). I must admit, I have never had it out of the tap. I am working on making a kegerator. Yuengling will be on tap if/when that happens.

As far as Yuengling penetration in NY, it is now everywhere since about 1-2 years ago. I can walk into any supermarket and expect to find it.

The best I've ever had was a chinese beer from a chinese restaurant. I forgot what it was called but it came in a green bottle. I need to go back to that restaurant.

I was looking at this kit for $235 with tank. I then talked to a beer disributor and he said he could get me everything with tank for $175. We'll see how it goes. I may be moving in which case, I don't want to take a kegerator with me. I would rather sell the place totally furnished and just by new junk furniture and appliances.

Likely Tsingtao. It is on my list.

The $365 included the fridge for $125 the kit was $240 when I built my baby. I wish I had the coupler that is in the package you linked Much easier than the old push-n-turn style one... I need an updated photo, many many more stickers and magnets have been added. My favorite is from the UK, a magnet of a sign that says "Ladies please adjust your dress before leaving."

Oh my goodness. You've never had any variety of Yuengling on tap. You poor, poor soul.

Let's just say that Yuengling Lager is the official currency of State College, PA, where I spent 5 wonderful years as a student at Penn State. Which, by the way, just beat the pants off Nebraska this weekend, not that I'm gloating or anything... But you can't go to a bar there and not find Lager on tap, and most will have Black and Tan and/or Porter as well. I had a keg of lager on tap at my house for most of my 5 years at school, and I never get sick of it. Might have gotten sick *from* it once or twice, but that was due to overconsumption, and usually not from just beer alone.

Yeah, Yuengling has definitely taken off in recent years, though my buddy who's transplanted from Pittsburgh to Phoenix regularly has to drag a few cases back with him since he can't find it down there. I would do the same thing, but fortunately, I'm in Philly now, and it's quite easy to find.

Well, at least I've never had it out of the can. Yuengling is impossible to find in Mass, so one of my friends has to bring it back up there when he goes to school. He has a Fiero, so he can only fit cans in the (engine compartment) trunk.

As for the bar that has it on tap.... I did work on their POS system when I was 16 and never got paid. I didn't even get any food. So, I tend to stay away.

I'll drink just about anything that appears at the Cambridge Beer Festival. I'm sure other Festivals can be used as a guide; Cambridge is the one I'm familiar with.

But my favourites have to be Black Sheep (because it's the nearest brewery to my birthplace) and Jennings (Cumberland Ale in particular). And most of the British ones mentioned by ashmoore.

In the US, the only place I've spent much time was in Salt Lake City, Utah. There are about 3 brew pubs in the city, and I liked them all, despite the low alcohol content - they seem to compensate by being very good on taste.

Despite being excellent, Yuengling is dirt cheap. I once bought a case of 24 bottles for under $16. That place (in NJ) still has it at that price, but they will only sell to people with a New Jersey license now. When they told me that, I had about $75 worth of beer in my cart. What a bunch of asses!

I have not had a Bud Light since I was 18.
I had Budweiser over the weekend for the first time in a while. I couldn't finish drinking it. It was too watery IMHO.

It is bar none the best beer I've tasted, with the possible exception of the other Norwich Inn's beers. Simply gorgeous. If you're in the Dartmouth/Upper Valley Region, stop in.

Although I think I'm still partial to a well-poured Guiness, I think Stone Brewing has become my favorite local brewer. Their beers are unbelieveable. I highly recommend picking up an Arrogant Bastard. It's well worth the trouble.

I regularly drink Yuengling - and for more special occasions I enjoy Harp, Molson Canadian, a pint of Guiness, or Red Hook's ESB. Otherwise, I usually stick with Miller Lite. I know I know...

If you are in Baltimore - you should check out the Baltimore Brewery - they brew DeGroens, they have several varieties and usually a seasonal. I've never been disappointed.

Rob - If you're going to be in Cincinnatti this weekend, maybe I'll bring some Yuengling... hmm I wonder if you can get Yuengling in Ohio? I know they don't have it in Maine, and I don't think you can get it in North Carolina (places I recently visited).

I am bringing the Yuengling. I have a killer cooler I bought just for the meet!

Back at Penn State we would get Yuengling for about $53 a keg, and that's with a $10 keg deposit. No more expensive than other domestics, and much more satisfying.

You can find anything in Raleigh if you know where to look. I know I've seen Yuengling, but I doubt it's as cheap here as it is wherever Rob lives.
