Fargh!
I ordered the OEM drive, and the confirmation came back with a November ship date. So I called them, and they advised cancelling it next week and ordering the retail version (sounded like stocking issues but I didn't ask). So I did - and the crapping confirmation comes back with Nov. 25 on it as well!
I'd like to get this deal, but - I'm sort of counting on it for a PC I'm making for a friend, and really need a big new drive for it. Sucks! Oh well, guess I'll get it figured out Monday or Tuesday, depending on if they have Columbus day off.

Well I don't think you have much choice then, unless you don't mind not getting the rebate. Even if you order it now, you have to send in the rebate form along with part of the packaging and it has to be postmarked within 30 days of purchase of the product. Obviously, that's not even possible with a Nov 25 ship date.

Yeah, this is absolute bullshit. I'm pretty pissed... as my order says delayed until Nov. 25th as well.
Regardless, if someone gets the Rebate form faxed to them I'd GREATLY appreciate it if someone could email me a scanned copy.
They'd better ship the thing WAY before then.... i'm not in the mood to sit on the phone with customer "support" for another hour being passed around like a rag doll.

Try forums.anandtech.com . Look under the "hot deals" section, and then for the post that started it all, it's title has a description of Dell / Western Digital / 120 SE / $68 or something similar. Buried in there around oage 7 or later, is a link for the correct rebate form.

Just remember that you don't just need the rebate form. You also need some sort of piece from the packaging of the drive. So you'll have to get the drive within 30 days of Sunday.

Actually, the new rebate that djc linked above says it must be postmarked within 14 days from the date of purchase, unlike 30 as previously mentioned.
Me thinks Dell is being sneaky, as I pointed out above.

Nevermind...I should finish reading threads before I post. Looks like Dell was stupid and mailed the wrong rebate to people. The 30-day one is for the non-SE drive.
Like I said...Dell is really tricky when it comes to things like this.

I'd follow the anandtech thread, those guys are being pretty non-stop in their quests. I have a feeling that since Dell stated very clearly, for about 48 hours on their website, that each of those drives had a short lead time, and $100 rebate, that will happen. If not, they'll take them back or do something else. Personally, I'm not worried about it. SOMETHING good will come of it. Eventually...

http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/bsd/bsd_rebate_westerndigital_021029.pdf <-- is the link for the $100 OEM rebate. The retail version form is all over the Anandtech threads in case you need that one instead.
I got my OEM drive today! Now I wish I hadn't cancelled the retail one, perhaps I'd have two? Shouldn't be greedy I guess, a 120SE for $68 is pretty good for me!

That pdf is for an order date of Oct 8-13th only... Did you order during that time?
I ordered the 120 from Dell WITH 8 meg cache, but they sent me the 2 meg cache version...
I dunno if I trust Dell anymore for stuff like this!

I ordered the retail version, and a few days later I got a call from a Dell CSR. They said they'd be honoring the rebate within 30 days of shipping my drive. Unfortunately, the target shipping date they quoted me is December 31st. Oh well, I'm in no hurry...

I finally sorted it out with their support in their support forum... and they said that they'd credit the $100 straight back to my credit card for the OEM version i ordered when it shipped. What a freakin' mess.

I ordered Oct 11th, so yep, works for me. AFAIK, that's the only time frame the deal was even posted on their page...
Cruddy on your actual piece - I did get a JB coded (8MB) version. Even for the 2, it's a good price, but still a bummer you didn't get what you wanted.
Funny thing is, I have a pair of 80's in RAID, and a pair of 120's with a DVD player and CD burner on the other main IDE channels so I'm all filled up in the PC already. I have a USB 2.0 60GB drive as well. I bought the 120 since it was such a great deal, now I don't know what to do with it. I know I could hook up a pair of 120's RAID and gain 40 GB of space - but I don't want to go through the work, and I don't NEED the space either. I'm considering throwing it into the USB drive though I also have thought about making a black desktop cased MP3 player with an old P166 I have (low-noise passive cooling), networking it to the main PC, and using it as a stereo for the house. I guess it's a good dilemna to have!
