Roger, regardless of (possible) arrival date, that is music to my ears

Hi guys, thanks for the continued help.

ID3 tags:

Yep, Roger's post explains what's going on. I guess someone should update the FAQ to point out the MP3 Tag Studio doesn't change the v2 tags yet. Fair enough (though it'd still be nice to have an option to force use of the v1 tags in Emplode).

Anyone know of a tag editor that does change the v2 tags now, and has near the functionality of MP3 Tag Studio?

Ethernet:

Guess I'll have to wait for v1.1 to get the empeg to tell me its IP address and the be able to type that in in Emplode. Oh well, considering the USB delay.

USB delay:

Have submitted the log file to bugs@empeg.com, I'm sure they're looking at it.

Syncing of playlists with a folder hierarchy:

Nice to know that this is planned for Emplode.

under "Clean up ID3 Tags", you can remove the tag completely.

Yeah, but does that clean the V2 tag or only the V1 tag? If the program has no V2 support, it might not know how to clean a V2 tag.

Done. Thanks for bringing the problem to everyone's attention.

i've got this problem with the tags too. the situation is that the mp3's that i've tested was an album downloaded from the internet and then i recreated all the tags from the filename's of the songs with mp3tagstudio and it has written the v1 tags correctly but when i looked at the files with en hex-editor i've seen that there is at the beginnig of the mp3-files an v2 tag which seems to be there already as i got the files. so we need an option in emplode to set a preference on v1 or v2 tag's or something like that...

yes.. if there is a v2 tag it uses this one and otherwise the v1 tag.. but THIS is the problem... i use ONLY v1-tags, but it seems like some software puts v2 tags and i haven't got a useful tool to remove the v2 tags..... hmmm.. think i've to code a little v2tag-remover tool...

Or you could use MP3Trim, as stated in the recently-updated FAQ.

i've checked the program but it doesn't look very handy for such a small change on the files...

As a follow up, here is what the author says:

>A question: I am not sure what level ID3 tag support you have in the
>program? V1, V2, etc.?

ID3v1, but the next version will probably support both ID3v1.1 and ID3v2.

>Additionally, if more than one tag version exists in an MP3 file, then
>how do you handle this when you modify or update tags?

There can only be one ID3v1 and one ID3v2 tag in a file, and since I only
support ID3v1 in the current version that is no problem right now. In the
version with ID3v2 support there will be user settings for which tags get
what and so on.

Try using MP3-Info Extension. It works great for most things, especially mass stuff. Since it's tough to use (no documentation, hehe), I'll explain:

1. After installing (or before, if you like making things difficult), right click on the folder(s) you want to work on. This allows you to edit as many files as you want. It will select subfolders and include the MP3's contained in them automatically.
2. To remove the tags (both v1 and v2 are removed, from my experience), blank out the boxes you want to clear by clicking "remove" on the first song.
3. Press the button to the left of each field you just cleared. (This keeps that field locked for every file in the directory(ies) you right clicked on in #1.)
4. Click on APPLY and you're done. No more tags.

Let me know if you need more help in doing this. I'm not bad at using this thing. You can use the "remove" button to get rid of the tags on the first file. Some experimentation with it goes a long way.

In reply to:

Now assign a number to empeg (such as 192.168.0.23)

Oi! That's my IP address... for my internal network. (Had cable installed, and they gave me another network card for free).

Another Erisian, eh? (*gives secret non-handshake*)

Just got this by e-mail from Mike at empeg:

You wrote:

We've found a problem in this area and it has been fixed in the imminent
1.01 release.

To the best of my knowledge, winamp does not use id3lib. MusicMatch does.
