Hi everyone,

I can't find an old thread where a new empeg owner wanted to know all the neat tricks, hacks, etc. that he could do with his new toy.

Among others, Paul Grezlak responded with a detailed list that I would like to forward to 3 friends of mine that own empegs but haven't pushed the envelope too far with them. Anyone else remember this thread? I don't remember enough of it to find it...

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Someone on the BBS was creating a web page with a comprehensive list. Perhaps he'll jump in here and give the URL...

Greetings!

Don't know about the web page, but I think this is the thread you wanted. And it is already woefully out of date...

Geez - I haven't applied your feedback yet!
Okay, I'll go do it now!

Edit: Okay take a look at http://coderage.org/empeg/

I'm sure there are lots of errors and omissions.

I've tried to aim the pages at those that are new to the Empeg.
I wanted to include the things that were available from Empeg Ltd (and pseudonyms) but that some people might not have (e.g carry case, remote), to include the most commonly requested replacement parts, and to link to tricks and tips for some of the advanced ways to customize the player using the standard software.

Perhaps I should just remove the first two columns and have a simple checklist:
o Do you have the MK1 or MK2/2a player?
o Have you upgraded the software and firmware to the latest versions from the empeg.com site?

I could also create a seperate page for replacement parts. I think there is already the beginings of one somewhere, isn't there? There is a lot over overlap between replacements and new/alternatives as original parts become harder to acquire.

Wow. This is scary. I am going down that "enthusiasts" column, using it as a checklist... "Lessee... got that... got that... got that... don't need the fan... got that... wrote that... got that..." Scary.

And ext3 filesystem support if you like. That list is cool BTW, didn't know it existed.

See, Micheal? Told you it was worth it to post it on the BBS.

How permanent is that page going to be? I could FAQ it after everyone's run it through the ringer and gotten it complete and corrected.

Okay, I've added these to my local copy of the webpage. I've also started to break out the games and started a page for the docking stations.

I'll update the site later today.
How permanent is that page going to be?

It could be permanent where it is, although I'd prefer to see it moved to riocar.org so that it is 'owned' by the community. It would also be nice if someone volunteered to be co-responsible for the pages with me (in case I'm on holiday, etc.) - any volunteers?

I'd love to see this on riocar.org and have a link at the top of the empeg bbs like the Hijack, jEmplode, etc links.

Thanks for posting all this stuff, everyone!

I think the community should have some kind of mechanism to capture the cool add-ons for the player and get this list updated. Perhaps something like the "Announcements" forum?

FWIW,

Jim

mdavey, I'll volunteer to be co-responsible for the site. I've already said something in this post that I wrote a while ago. When Drakino replies, I'll let you know what's up.
