I've never before seen a comercial that I watched three times in one day because I wanted to. Very impressive and ingenious. Did someone say there's a "making of" clip out there too?

Agreed... One question though, how did they make those tires go uphill?

Didn't see the "making of" thing, but the obvious guess would be weights at the top.

Yeah, that'd have to be a pretty heavy weight. I wonder how long it took to get it all set up....

They were indeed weighted. The "making of" clip is very short... it doesn't show very much at all to be honest.

I'd love to get my hands on the higher quality version, but thanks for making this one available! It's great!

I got turned on to this ad by a CNN article, where they interviewed some guy involved witht the production. Yes, the wheels were weighted, with some car part. Aside from the obvious exceptions (a couple of lumps of wood, perspex holding the speakers etc) everything used was a genuine Accord part.
It took them something like 640 takes over 4 days to get it just right, and the aesthetics of the movement were a big factor - they wanted a lot of grace where components were *just* triggering the next link (eg muffler - wouldn't have rolled any further) and not brute force.
Apparently one of the elements that gave them the most hassle was the very first cog - the human element of rolling it down the plank made it very difficult to get right.

Ok, due to popular demand, I've made a 76MB beast of a file. 720x576 5000kbps.

Its too big to upload, but I'll make it available from my machine to those who want it. Bear in mind I'm on a standard 600k line, so can only upload to you at 15k/s, and it'll be one at a time!

So if you want it, email me and I'll give you login details.

Did you ever see that animated Martell Cognac ad, the one with the swallow flying over a very Monet-style South of France? There are some stills on this page (as "The Art Of Cognac") but they don't convey the feel of it. I could watch that one all day.

I'm afraid we don't get many commercials for cognac here in the good ol' U. S. of A.

Heh, I can't recall any others over here, either. I got the distinct impression that commissioning that advert was more about patronage of the arts than it was about recouping costs through actual sales of product.

I like how the song at the end (I think) is "Around the World" by Daft Punk

Damnit! You're right. The bass line was similar and I forgot about the intro because I was fascinated by the video it's self

One question though. I can't seem to tell how the mobile made of car windows is able to trigger the next item

The draught created by the windows makes the radiator grill fall I think.

I don't think it is. I know that rythm was sampled from a *slightly* older track. I just can't put my finger on it's name, or the artist responsible.

The one is the ad IS Sugarhill Gang as they are on the Honda DVD I got

I don't know if they were influenced by Queen though, or the other way around

Okay, okay. But I know that rythm came from a song that was popular in like, the 70's, or at least before my time.

I found it myself. Some quick research on AMG yielded the answer: "Infectious and catchy, "Rapper's Delight" borrowed the break from Chic's "Good Times" and became a worldwide hit..." This information is found in AMG's Sugarhill Gang Biography.

I feel so special.

Rapper's Delight was recorded in 1979.

I knew I might be off about the date, hence the addon "or at least before my time."

It took them something like 640 takes over 4 days to get it just right

I read this a lot - and saw a bit on TV, but apparently it was at least two takes which were stitched at the muffler part.

There are also two different endings, so they would havve had to do it correctly twice anyway
