Ok, I don't know the warranty length on other players but 90 days to me is far too short for such an expensive product.
1 year is my minimum for something like this..
What do you guys think?

I think 90 days is pretty standard and usually manufacture warranty's are mostly useless anyway.

It may be a standard, but that just sucks. Especially for a reasonably expensive, relatively delicate product like the Karma. 3 MONTHS is no time at all. isn't the hard drive itself warrantied for longer than that?!

This is why the UK is great (for once!). 1 year guarantee as standard. If it breaks you take it back to the shop where you got it. Its soon to be extended to 2 years. Now i think about it, my gameboy is 3 years.

1 year is my minimum for something like this.. I agree. I'm going to stay away from the Karma for a while until the price comes down to a level that I'd be comfortable risking on only a 90 day warranty. It'll also give them time to work out the inevitable bugs in the first few batches.

Never dealt with extended warranties at retailers, but I do try to buy all of my electronics with my American Express Blue card, which doubles the manufacturer's warranty up to 1 additional year. Of course I would prefer that the original warranty was 1 year as well, to get a full 2 years of protection.
I'd be willing to bet that D&M's other products (home theater receivers, etc.) have at least 1yr warranties in the U.S. If that's the case, I wonder why they're only offering 90 days on this particular product...

Tommy: "Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why do they put a guarantee on a box? Hmm, very interesting."
Ted: "I'm listening."
Tommy: "Here's how I see it. A guy puts a guarantee on the box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside."
Ted: "Yeah, makes a man feel good."
Tommy: "Course it does. Ya think if you leave that box under your pillow at night, the Guarentee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter."
Ted: "What's your point?"
Tommy: "The point is, how do you know the Guarantee Fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Build model airplanes" says the little fairy, but we're not buying it. Next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times."
Ted: "But why do they put a guarantee on the box then?"
Tommy: "Because they know all they solda ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is. Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for right now, for your sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality item from me."
Ted: "Hmm. Okay, I'll buy from you."
Tommy: "Well I...What?!"

I plan to do the same thing with my blue card. Is there some paperwork you have to file to extend the warranty, or only if you want to file a claim on it after it kicks in? Do you know?

Apparently, it's "automatic."
Should be. BTW you get the same double warranty with most (all?) Platinum Visa and Mastercards. A friend of mine just had her iBook die a month out of original warranty and was very happy when I told her that.
