Hey all... just looking through my dial-up settings and I have noticed that this new item is listed in the properties for my dial-up connections.

What is it???

Deterministic Network Enhancer. I can't find any description of it on google or Microsoft's website.

Anybody have a clue??

Thanks!

Do you use a VPN?
Try putting it in quotes when searching in google.

No VPN at all here, just a slow dial-up internet connection.

I did use quotes in Google but I still couldn't find an actual description of it. Just a bunch of pages saying to make sure it is checked for certain VPN setups and various schools and businesses.

What is it and should I have it checked or not? Will it cause problems with dial-up (as I am experiencing horrible useage problems that my ISP can't seem to find)?

Anybody???

Thanks!

We use the Cisco VPN Client at work, which adds the Deterministic Network Enhancer miniport driver.
Check if you've got a VPN client installed ones which use DNE are Cisco, Safenet, Unity, Borderware...

You should be able to go into TCP/IP properties of the network connection and un-select it. Also try disabling any VPN services you find in cntrl panel --> admin tools --> services.

Sometime VPN clients may give you connection problems to your ISP due to setups etc... however it shouldn't affect performance.

cheers,
Jai

No VPN clients here. We simply use the net for email and web access. I am using XP Pro so I wonder if this got added with a update from MS's site.

I have it disabled now but I am not noticing a difference. I'm still having trouble sending emails. FYI, Cancom sucks!

P.S. This has been a very pittiful ISP expecially since Blaster hit!
P.P.S. We may have land based broadband by Q4 2004.
