Hrm... i was thinking about it some more... and i don't think horses are very repairable... if my horse had been hit on that corner, it would have been a pretty gorey site indeed. Maybe i should just stick to my feet.

and i don't think horses are very repairable... Yeah but they aren't as expensive, and after they get hit, you can probably send them to the rendering plant for some cash.

You also have to take into account the . . . “exhaust system”. More environmentally friendly certainly, but perhaps not appreciated by others who have to park nearby.

but if the city tow truck lead fails, the first thing they'll do is ask local body shops if there are any leads
Who, the police? Wow, over here unless you had a *good* witness (or several) it would be "well, they say they didn't hit you so you'll have to claim on your insurance. You're not comprehensively insured? Oh dear, here's your crime reference number - close the door on your way out."
Now if you said they were speeding when they drove off...

Either you live in a community where the police care, or you're dreaming. Stuff like this just isn't important enough anymore to investigate that thoroughly.
Edit Should've read the entire thread before posting, but if two people sadi it on the Net, it must be true...

Well, so far city tow is being non to helpful... i'm shocked. They say they contract to numerous companies that use blue and yellow tow trucks, and unless we have a license or id number, we're borked. So i'm attempting some social engineering this afternoon since i'm sure my insurance company won't follow it up any more than that... I wanna catch this f ucker bad.

Oh .. dude ... NOOOOOO. that sucks.
You realize after riding in your car, all Kirsten talks about is going to the dealership to "look at them again" or "test drive them again". Your WRX singlehandedly is going to cost my happy home a new car

This decision stressed me out too .. When I rear-ended somebody with my Boxster, I was pretty nervous about getting it repaired. Whatever you do, don't settle for less than 100% satisfaction. There were a couple small bubbles in my hood after that and when I went to send it back in and have them redo it, the body shop gave me a sob story blah blah -- it's their job to make that thing look awesome again .... Oh -- also, you might want to look into getting reimbursed by your insurance company for "diminished value". SInce you aren't at fault, that's a possibility (consider if you were to sell your car, now it's worth less because it's been in an accident, even if they do a PERFECT job fixing/repaiting it).

Sorry to hear about the accident! Bad, bad luck, man.
I wonder if there is a single doctor in the country with good, legible handwriting...

If the [towtruck[ driver has any sense he'll fess up. Trying to hide it will only get him fired if they eventually find out. Admitting guilt off the bat will save his job. Accidents happen.
Perhaps he was trying to drum up business

LOL. In that case he probably should've thought a little harder about the way he hit the car; he left it drivable.
[sorry Loren ]

Well, his phone number checks out, so at least it wasn't some fake number.
Ouch, man! Too bad.
I bet, though, if this number checked out, you are going to be OK with respect to tracking this down and not taking a hit on it. By "city" tow truck, I assume that would be one operated by the city, not a brand name? I guess it is *possible* that they didn't know they hit, but hard to imagine.
During my last week of unemployment I watched a huge dump truck towing a flatbed trailer take an acute left hand turn. The trailer pivoted and the rear edge (tapered for equipment to drive on) sliced through this poor lady's A pillar. We weren't sure the truck driver even noticed. Oh, yeah, I'm an official witness :-( Oh, and we found the truck -- hadn't gone too far.

Everything is a bit different in Amsterdam. The houseboat in front of my main windows just got the front corner cut off by a speedboat.
(he has the same address as I, apart from a "in front of" added to my house number)
And yes, they did see the guy, and called the police. Hard to do a hit-and-run in a boat on the canals
