I have 2 Xeon 3.06GHz CPUs for sale, but what does matched pair mean?

They are both 3066DP/512/533/1.525, SL6VP

But the other numbers differ. I don't want to advertise them as a matched pair if thats not what they are.

Typically it means "matching stepping" but you'll need to find out where the stepping is printed on those particular CPUs. I think it used to be in the center of the underside (pin side) of the processor.

If you have a dig around on Intel's website you should be able to find a document detailing exactly which variant of your processor family can be combined as a pair.

Also keep in mind motherboards may be able to support them, even if the steppings do not match.

Every Proliant I have worked with allows mixed steppings, as long as the lowest stepping processor is in slot 1.

Hi. Looking for around £350 for the pair.

I found this on Intel's site.

It shows Core Stepping of D1 for SL6VP processors. Is that what I'm looking for?

Yes. If you read further in the document there should be a table showing which stepping levels can be mixed.

Right, so if I read this correctly, an SL6VP, could be matched with an SL74T as both have a core stepping of D1?

Right, they are the same family and therefore have 'No Issues'. Seems the family (SL6VP) is the important code.

Thanks everyone.

Chicken! "real eBayers" start all their auctions at 99p N/R

edit: I see you've got a bid so it's a bit academic really. Still, I like to start them low to get a good number of bidders in and see a feeding frenzy.
