I filled clear plastic farnell buttons with phosphorescent sculpey clay. I also attempted to do these same with the holes in the knob but no go.
Here's what it looks like with the lights on.

Wait a minute........ are your LED's UV or are you projecting the UV from inside the car?

Sweet!!
Some translucent uv responsive colored buttons from Redux would be awesome with that set up!

Oooh, nice nice nice.. I haven't been following up with the whole other Button thread because I came in late and don't have the heart to read 150+ responces to only get that they aren't made yet.
I have a handful of UV ELDs that will work; I may contact Eutronix and see if they can instqall them, and then wait for a set of clear buttons to be made..
Me.

Sorry..........I did mean the ones that maczrool was making.
I don't see why they can't make them, there has to be some UV responsive color they can use right? Transparent would probably give a Neon look and the translucent ones would most likely give that "glow" effect your after.

These are made with violet end glow fiber shaped and glued to the short farnell button caps.
I also ran fiber through the knob holes

Wow Alvin, that's very nice work! So did you turn those end pieces to size and polish them or what? Whatever you did it looks great.
After we get standard colors established (this Monday I hope), we'll get to work on UV varieties.

Very nice! But your pics make me wonder : is that an aluminum handle I see there ? (I'm sorry if this has been asked before ; I haven't been able to check the boards very thoroughly lately)

Considering the cut-out on the left, it looks like a polished (maybe chromed) original one.

Dude!! You know you were sporting a huge grin for at least half an hour. So sweet how you used fiber to contain the light. There is no visible leakage at all!!!
Very nice work.

Hey Archeon,
I stripped the original paint off the handle and had it chrome plated at a chrome shop. The thread is here.. If you decide to do this make sure that you protect the screw holes in the handle otherwise they'll fill them with chrome plating.

Thanks Stu, I bought a rod of end glow fiber, cut it to 3 inch lengths, and then half way sharpened them in a pencil sharpening, smoothed them with 600 grit sandpaper. Then polished it with steel wool and buffing paper. It only took a couple of hours and they really glow. I also picked up a rod of end glow red that I'm anxious to try when I get a chance.
Here's where I bought the stuff.
Thanks for keeping me in mind for UV buttons. I'll need em when I get my other player setup.

Thanks for the info Mach !
But I don't think I'll use that route, I wouldn't have a clue where to go to to get this done !
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that I've read once that 303 was also working on an aluminum handle. I'll just wait some more then, I'm in no hurry!
This makes me think : has 303 been on the boards lately ? I haven't seen him in a while...

Something a little different. I took Stu's question about turning the buttons as a suggestions. After a couple of tries, I was able to drill a hole through the center of the violet rod and super glue a red rod through the center. The drilling fractured the violet plastic so it looks a little like an iris with a red pupil. The left photo was taken in ambient light and the right was taken in the dark.
I still like the solid buttons better but these are fun. I've got a piece of green here also that I'll give a try when I get time.

That's definitely an interesting effect. Nice work! The chrome fascia really makes for a good back drop for the buttons too.

Thanks Stu. It's too bad that 303 isn't going to make the fascias any longer. Definitely one of the best cosmetic changes going.
