I am so sick of Amazon.com and their "free shipping". I understand that free shipping will take a little longer to get here, I don't understand why it takes 1-2 weeks to package up the products FOR shipping.

Buy.com looks O.K., but they charge salestax. Any ideas?

OK, cool.

I buy DVDs mostly from Deep Discount DVD and often buy CDs from Deep Discount CD. I have never paid shipping with them and everything gets to me promptly through the US Postal Service. Their prices almost always beat Amazon as well.

I second Deep Discount DVD. I've purchased several from there and have been pleased.

People in the UK should check out http://www.play.com/ if they haven't already. The often beat Amazon.co.uk on price, delivery is free and is faster than Amazon's free delivery.

P.S. when did Amazon.co.uk start listing region 1 DVDs. I just did a search for a couple of titles and it showed me some region 1 disks, with the warning that they shipped from the US and might attract duty and VAT. Is this a new response to the US:UK exchange rate ?

This is also nice for finding DVD's on the cheap: http://www.dvdpricesearch.com/

I myself will never use Deep Discount DVD again. When you don't receive your full order for 2 1/2 months you get highly disappointed in that company.

But on the ones I've come across, there has been no way of buying them directly from Amazon (only links to external parties).

I shop on half.com, but mostly I buy at suncoast becuase I get about 2 dollars back on each dvd I buy in the form of coupons I can use to buy more dvd's add that to the buy 2 get one free things they have and the manufactors buy this this and this get one of these free deals it works out ok,,
I normally get 5 dvds for the price of 3 onces you add it all up.

I only use half.com for odd dvds or old ones stores don't carry.

also if you get a reagonless DVD player you can purchase DVD's on Ebay from other contries that are slighty different versions of movies we have here, IE my Uncut version of the professional (from Japan) is nearly 35 mins longer then the "UNCUT Directores version" we have here.

The free amazon shipping is probably something like batched shipping direct from a distributor, but i'm just guessing.

Deep Discount DVD has been pretty good, the shipping is a little wierd. Everytime something doesn't arrive in less than four days it takes almost two weeks from the time they ship until I get the packages. On the other hand, my pre-order for the big Two Towers set arrived on Monday, the day before the official street date.
