So i've no idea what i've done, but here are the symptoms.

Player boots ok, and seem to play fine.
BUT ONLY WITHIN ONE SONG.

If you try to move to the next or previous song, the play just locks up. I'm also getting some random reboots.

Initially I got this after editing the config.ini for some IR Translate codes but surely that can't be it ?

I have tried flashing with 2.00 but this didn't make any difference and i've also taken the entire IR Translate section out of the config.ini

I can sync as long as the player is paused or in standby, but if the player is playing, syncing stops or fails.

edit : More testing ! .. definately the player locks up either when you forward to the next song, or it gets to the end of the current song. It is like as though it can't find the next song ? If you reboot the player it boots to the next song you tried to access. Bizarre !!

Any advise very welcome !!!

Thanks

Corrupted files maybe? Can you get it to play different files or is it always stuck on the same file?

If your player has more than one disk drive, there is a chance that one of them is giving you trouble and that the lockup is caused by the player trying to play a song from the bad disk drive. See if you can get the player to function normally by starting it up with no song selected. In any event, make sure to rule out disk drive problems, then do a file system check and if necessary try to refresh the database files.

Thanks Guys,

It'll take me a while to get through all of those things ...

However, as a precautions i've have started an 'Emplode' Download to my PC to backup all the music. This is going to take 13 hours or so, and it seems to be working through in FID order ...

If this completes without a hitch can we effectively rule out Hard Disk problems ?

BTW, I have a 20gb and a 30gb drive in my player.

So assuming the backup of the music goes ok, and if we then assume that the HD's and the IDE cable are ok, this has to be a Hardware or a Database issue ?

I can pause the player and operate the menus as normal so the buttons are actually working.

I have checked Hyperterminal (boot process) and nothing seems odd compared to the FAQ, but it does say the message about needing to FSCK because the checkpoint had been reached, However when I syncd with emplode a few times it didn't seem to do this and the message didn't go away.

I will post the Hyperterminal later if this helps..

So I think it is the database ?, but I think that it's odd in the way that the problem occurs ...

1. Player boots normally.
2. Player plays song until then end of the song
3. Then Hangs. No button response at all and I have to cycle the power.
4. When you cycle the power, the player is magically at the start of the next song

So it's like the player cannot find the song when playing, but when you reboot it finds it.

Any more ideas .. ? I'll do the system check and refresh the DB files after the backup has completed just to be safe.

Thanks

Hi all,

The backup completed successfully without a hitch so I assumed no Hard Disk problem.

I FSCK'd it and rebuilt the database but the symptoms are still exactly the same.

Here is the HyperTerminal for this that know.

Update !!

It appears to be working.

I tried all the software options, but basically it seems it is a physical problem with either the HD connector on the board or (hopefully) the cable. A new cable is on it's way to me from Eutronix.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Hopefully the unit will hold out a bit longer!

Also make sure to check the solder joints on the IDE header.

Cheers
