I bought a Rio receiver from Ubid and just got it today. It's a rebadged Dell. It looks new, but the tape on the box had been previously opened and there was no software CD enclosed. I downloaded v1.03 from the rioaudio.com site, but it doesn't work! After searching the forum, I see the rebadged Dells need v1.04. Does anyone have a condensed version of v1.04 that's less than 10mb that I can download on a dialup connection?
Thanks.

I tried replying to your PM, but every time I try, my Sent Messages stays at 0. Let me know if you don't get my PM.
Thanks.

I'm still having no luck getting one.
I have a T1 at work, so if anyone would be willing to send me even the 78MB version, let me know!

I'm willing to help-- I think the part you need is actually <10MB. Email me at "jvolino ( a_t ) hotmail.com" if you're having PM problems.

As an aside, I have always been a little confused about the term "rebadged Dell." If that means a receiver with the Dell logo/faceplace design, then I have those and I found 1.03 did work for me when I reverted to it from 1.04 for various reasons.

Thanks for the offer, I got a copy from hipped1 today so all is well! It works great!
I actually like my Audiotron better, but the Rio receiver only cost a fraction of the price, so for the money, it's awesome! I'll probably get more for other rooms around the house.

If that means a receiver with the Dell logo/faceplace design

It doesn't. Not exactly. When Dell stopped selling the Receivers, they gave/sold them back to Rio. Because we couldn't very well have them bringing up a splash screen with "Dell" written on it, they were reflashed to download a different set of firmware from the original. They couldn't just be reflashed to download the original Rio firmware, because the screen is upside down on the Dell receivers.

So, there are 3 flavours of firmware: Original Rio, Original Dell, Upside-down Rio (for the reflashed Dell Receivers).

The v1.03 server doesn't contain the 3rd firmware version, so you need v1.04 to use a reflashed Dell.

Now I'm confused. I have one that has SonicBlue stickers over where I presume used to be printed Dell. When my splash screen comes up, it says Dell. Same on both my units. Do I have an Un-reflashed Dell???

My rebadged units do the same... rio - Dell - trio

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. It works doesn't it?

Nah, even if it wasn't flashed it would still work with audio manager 1.04 (you are running 1.04 aren't you?) I've got an actual dell unit as well as the rio silver and blue units and the rebadged dell units and have no problems with 1.04 on any of those.

Your problems must be caused by something else. (my opinion anyway).

It wasn't just the ROM that was changed, the tar of the unit software was also changed - ie, the kernel it reboots into needs to know not to say "dell".

If you took the kernel image from the 1.04 tar and put it in the tar that you're serving then you'd not see the Dell logo at all.

Hmm. Starting to think I may have 1.03, and that's why I'm having problems.

Dumb question - how do I find out? I've never had the need (or desire to ckeck, as I always assumed it was 1.04). (I'm at work, so I can't checkk now).

Can I get a PM too? I've been banging my head trying to get my receivers up on tRio, only to find that I'm running v1.01 ARM software. Grr. Anyone out there have an image of the 1.04 release? Thanks.

My units are not Dell rebadged, but are actual Dell players. Are there any other differences I need to be aware of?
/me goes of to search the board....

Its my understanding that you only need version 1.04 for the rebadged dells. The orignal Dell units run fine on 1.03 which is still available for download here under software:

For what it's worth, I have a couple of Dell badged receivers and they came with ARM V1.01b! This is on a pukka DEll CD with Musicmatch as well. I run v1.04 which seems to work with all the flavours.

Does anyone know what is involved in "reflashing" a rebadged dell down to 1.03?

Do you have to pull chips, or is it just a software process?

Thanks.

No, it's a software process. It's not something that can be done by the end user, though.
