Hi there,
Does anyone could help me? The player won't start, the Display stays blank and the Standby LED dims up and down.
here is the stuff from hyperterminal :

I think your flux capacitor is broken... Have you made any drive changes recently?

The hyperterm transcript is a little muddled, but it certainly looks like a drive communication issue. This one is slightly new to me (status timeout and drive not ready for command), but I would recommend you try the hard drive troubleshooting steps in the FAQ before anything else.

Not certain, but the kernel appears to be crashing before it even gets to the hard disk detection. (Based on the errors and the "function entered" being listed before the HD detection lines. That's if the listing above is accurately what's being output and isn't messed up in the translation somehow.)
Perhaps the flash memory got corrupted somehow. Try doing a RAM Test. If it passes the RAM test, try putting a fresh Hijack kernel into place and see if that fixes it.

I thought it was more just a hyperterminal capture glitch. The registers start appearing in what looks like the protected boot code, before the kernel even starts loading.

The reason why the boot log is so weird looking is Hyperterminal being it's usual crap self. It's overlaying the latest lines over the old ones which makes it look like the bootloader is printing out the oops.
The empeg is detecting the HD and then dying with a memory violation when it tries to load init. Check the cable?

Ah, OK. Yeah, if he's having disk trouble, then as everyone else said, start going through the usual troubleshooting steps. Strange, I've never seen Hyperterminal do that to me.

Nor I (at least, not in that exact manner), but hyperterminal has a bad reputation at best. You have to capture to a file, otherwise you get messy results. I tend to get a lot of drops in the text and sessions blending with each other if I just capture text from the screen.

hi guys,
thanks for the help so far.
here is the copied stuff from hyperterminal from the ramtest

it seems that everything is ok. the cable won't be the problem. i have two players and changed harddrives in between. but the player won't start. next step i guess is a fresh hijack kernel. thanx, dave

My suggestions of the RAM test and fresh kernel were based on the messed-up hyperterminal log. It turns out there is nothing wrong with RAM or flash, so those things are not going to help. It's more likely a problem with the disk drive, the cable, or the IDE header. Definitely start going through the entire list of possible causes for hard disk trouble methodically, one by one.
