New in this version: added support for song ratings feature of a new app coming out soon from yn0t_ / tonyc .

Cheers

Cool! Thanks for all the hard work over the last few hundred versions. Think it will live to be 1000?

Nice! Thanks again for letting us test your software. (is that really the basic premise, that it's only for you but we help you test it? i might have missed any implied sarcasm.) Haha, now I'm only 20 versions behind.

I can't wait for that tonyc software. It sounded very interesting when last I read about it.

There are a few features in Hijack that I never use myself, but most of it was put there because I wanted it for my own players. Suggestions and ideas for it all have generally come from the group here (particularly the two Tonys, and others).

If you are using v3alpha8 on your player Chris (and you SHOULD be), then you will want very much to install the latest Hijack kernel for it, since Hijack now includes several workarounds/fixes for v3alpha8 bugs.

Cheers

My girlfriend would respect your naming convention. Any time I mention something about Mac OS 10.3.4, she asks "why the hell don't they just call it 11"? One day I was on the phone and said something about 802.11g and I heard hear say under her breath, "803".

Thanks for all 400 versions, Mark

'cos it wouldn't round up to 11, you'd still have to call it 10.

HI Mark, for those of us who have not yet seen v3a8, is it still worthwhile getting v400? Think I'm on v385 or thereabouts (would have been more up to date, but still rebuilding my main server after lightning strike - more bits died than at first thought) and all works superbly now, but if there are enhancements I can take advantage of, even before I get round to soldering in more RAM then I will.

Yes, I think everybody should be running v400. There have been a number of internal fixes and tweaks along the way, which benefit most of us.

And when the next public alpha s/w comes out, you won't have to suffer misery until remembering to bump up Hijack versions then.

I'm not suffering misery now, and I'm using v3a8 without Hijack.

I can only recollect 1 or 2 'bad' hijack versions, so it's a no brainer, especially as new features are often being added

Oh, that reminds me. Been wanting to mention this. Last few hijack versions...

When you go to the "High Temperature Warning" screen just for the purpose of peeking at the temperature, it always reads zero *unless* you set a warning threshold. If your warning threshold is Off, it never displays a temperature. Shouldn't we be able to look at the temperature without having to set a warning threshold? Was this by design for some reason?

it's the same when you read the temp using just 'cat /proc/empeg_therm'. However, if you wait a fewseconds it and try again, it will return a value.

I think the way the temp sensor works, is that it has to be read and can take a couple of seconds for the read to return. So what you're getting is always a few seconds delayed.

Yeah, I see it now. I must have been too quick with the connector during my first test.

Looking at code...

But I can sit there on that screen forever and it never changes from zero until I set a threshold. Then it instantly shows me a temperature.

The old Vital Signs screen would periodically refresh the value so I didn't need to do anything but wait a couple of seconds.

Whilst you're at it, can you test the new feature?

I've had several player crashes since upgrading to v400 (from 391) with v3a7. I've attached one of the crash logs from the serial port if it means anything to you. Its actually dieing and dropping to a shell, not just restarting.

Turn on "autochange visuals", and then wait for the "Lavoratory Floor" visual to be randomly selected.. you player will die, and recovery is impossible on the road.

Probably not Hijack, specifically. Your player is low on memory.

Vital Signs refreshes the screen, but the high temp warning screen only refreshes on button presses. I suppose I could change that easily enough.

But it will still read zero at first, for about two seconds. Due to the buggy nature of the hardware sensor device, it is best not to access it unless needed, which is how Hijack treats the sucker.

Cheers

Works nicely. Doesn't work when the player is paused, I assume because the DSP is muted. But if there is an MP3 playing, then it works.

I figured it was something like that.

Right, that's the original behavior of the Vital Signs screen, which is what I expected.

OK, I'll buy that. I've had some intermittent issues ever since upgrading to v3a7. Still, it seems to be happening more often with the latest hijack. On the upside, some of the changes you've made in recent versions are quite nice. My player seems to be generally more responsive, particularly to http commands.

Something I noticed today...
I don't think v2.00 was this way, but I'm using the v3alpha7 right now. Whenever you seek for a while through the song, it will skip ahead and get to about 2min ahead of where you were and then pause while the HD spins up, only then will it continue seeking quickly. It seems the appropriate behavior should be that once it runs out of buffer it lets you keep seeking forward, you just don't hear any noises to go with it. Then once you reach the place in the song you like, it will pause and spin up the HD. Or maybe it should just spin up the HD once you run out of buffer, but not pause your seeking (just continue seeking w/o sound).

Yeah I noticed this too as well.. and it only seemed to start after i switched from 2.00 final to 3.00a7. Also you can't fast forward anymore while paused which I also used a lot since it was faster.
