I'm thinking about moving out of the US to somewhere in europe. I was hoping some of the people here might have some ideas.

I'm a linux/unix sysadmin, I currently work for a university supercomputing center running linux cluster systems.

My partner is a technical writer for cray, and she also speaks finnish fluently, spanish reasonably, and has been working on a little bit of french.

CERN?

Plenty of big computers there.

There's a lot of UNIX sysadmin work in Finland. However, it's not a particularly easy place to live. I would always recommend the Netherlands - I live here - as it's an excellent place to live. It's just a bit flat - if you're a hill walker, well - forget it.

Cold, dark, expensive, almost arctic circle. People are friendly, but dark in nature. Alcohol is prohibitively expensive - a shot of whiskey in a bar will cost you over 10 quid!

Having said that, it's an amazing place for winter sports, so if you're into snowboarding or skiing, you are set.

Having googled it, I've learnt two things: It's popular for winter sports and male suicide.

Finns are smart.

If they're so smart, why do they need other people to run their Unix systems?
