I see a lot of problems with that list. I mean, I would never expect an empeg to be on there. But the RAZR is the 12th best gadget of the last five decades?

Respect with the original StarTAC, C64, Treo 600, Roomba, TiVo, PMP300, Game Boy, Betamax and the Newton. They all really were innovative products.

But, damn, some of the stuff they have: Razr V3, ZIP Drive, Intellimouse! What are they taking?

If you want the *real* list, you'd better ask this forum

I thought the Intellimouse was odd, too, but they point it out as the first optical mouse. (Ignoring the ones that needed the gridded reflective pad from 20 years ago, I assume.)

My Ikea desk at home (ex Empeg Towers) has a glass top on top of the wood surface, and my optical mouse doesn't deal with it. So I use an old Sun gridded reflective mouse mat

Maybe as I remember using the Sun version, I am less impressed.

I never really did like the Intellimouse, I am using one right now (a recent one) and it doesn't seem very smooth to me. I did a direct comparison, and the Logitech verson at the same price is most definately superior.

Do you still keep it oriented the right way?

Not quite that old, but I'm still using the fabric on rubber mouse mat from the company I worked for before empeg, which makes it about 7 years old.

I still haven't found anything as comfortable, and it's getting a little frayed around the edges.

This is with my cheapo Logitech optical mouse, and it works perfectly. I find the Logitech mouse a little small in my hand, but I can live with it.

I'm using a very ancient "Caldera Network Desktop" (Linux) mouse pad, one of two they sent me (along with a boxed distro and two nice black T-Shirts with logos) a very very long time ago. Wayyy before they became SCO. 8"x8", maybe 3mm thick. Perfect (for me).

Anything less than a pint jar looks insufficient in your hand!

Cheers

Ooh, I've still got that one! The very first dialup ISP I had (and only one I ever paid for) was a single box with a couple of modems attached run by a guy at Caldera as a way for them to earn some money while they tried to figure out how to make money selling this thing called "Linux".

A year or two later I was sysadmin at another ISP in town and they sent over their boxed distro, t-shirts, mousepad, etc.
