I was just able to place an order for 5 of the Hitachi's. $13.00 shipping for all 5. With $15.35 California sales tax, total came to $201.35

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores...;catalogId=-840

Fujitsu part number 13N6793

Hitachi part number 13N6805

Good luck on getting them. I've put my order in for three on saturday, but I'm not expecting them to show up.

Cool.. even includes the mounting tray for whatever ThinkPad they were intended for! Hitachi still in stock as of right now, but the price quoted was $42. Fujitsu now out of stock.

What the heck. I ordered 2. I remember this one time I found an expensive car audio player for sale and bought it for really cheap. Turned out to be legit. This may be too.

And I just bought a 120GB empeg with a bag for $80 last night. So I guess I'll try my luck and order another two.

Seems that the description is "80GB HARD DRIVE TRAY ASSEMBLY FRU".. are you sure this isn't the price for the hard drive tray and not the drive itself?

The tray-only would not include the "80GB" notation.

Cheers

I called IBM on the telephone where they confirmed that it was in fact the hard drive

Am I the only one who's getting prices ten times what is quoted in the thread title? When I add the Fujitsu to the cart, it shows up as costing $342.

No, I'm seeing that too.

Yesterday, when I checked, the hitachi was 42$ and it's now 522$. Fujitsu is 342$ now...

I would guess that it is an error, and that they will cancel the orders. But it could be nice.

Well, that would make me feel a little bit better... But for the rest of you, I hope it's the real deal.

(Last week I ordered and paid $119 for an 80 GB drive.)

FYI
I just called IBM and asked them about both part numbers, as I did not get the 37 dollar price but like 4 or 5 hundred dollars. They said that was an internet mistake, and that IBM will have to honor the orders that were placed (I guess they fixed it on Monday) but the price was no longer available. So if you got your order in by Monday, you stand a good chance of getting it. He also said that IBM has to order a bunch to cover the orders so you may have a bit of a wait time. They said that IBM will take about a 2 MILLION dollar hit....something like 8 thousand orders???
Well congrats to all who got in on that deal...for the rest of us, well maybe we can buy your old drives?

It is strange to me that they (IBM) will honor the price. Most companies will specifically state that they are not responsible for typographical errors on their sites. Cool if they do, though!

Oddly enough their site had a disclaimer about how pricing/inventory might not be correct on a certain subset of the products. (I can't remeber what products exactly and can't find it on their site at the moment.)

What really struck me as odd was that they raised the prices on monday from $37 to $42 dollars. These are the people that sell huge POS and back end solutions for major companies?

I'd love to get my orders, and I'd think highly of IBM for sticking to their word. I've always been impressed when Dell coupons don't stack quite as intended, but they (usualy, less so these days) play the game fair and fullfill the orders.

I'd be impressed if they honored them. I loved when that airline honored those $2 airfares that some people got for a few minutes one day*.

*price and time window are not necessarily accurate
