maybe when you guys are at the concept-board phase for the empeg MK3 you could think about adding this...

USB and ethernet connectors in the car mounting hardware... like the serial port that's in there now. it'd be great to be able to do a USB or ethernet transfer with the empeg docked in the car using vehicle power... but currently there really is no easy way to do that

(altho i have a power inverter which i use with AC power and my laptop to do USB file transfers in my truck)

Many folks have requested this in the past. They wanted to have ethernet on the car connector, but couldn't do it because there wasn't a such thing as a reliable car docking connector with enough pins.

Note that the docking cage has a gap around these connectors, for the sole purpose of being able to reach the plugs in the docking cage. Some people have creatively fashioned their own ethernet connections for the docking cage. It can be done if you are careful about the mounting.

i actaully had a semi-workable solution... but i forgot about the little locking tab on the RJ-45... i ended up half breaking everything trying to un-dock my empeg unit.

i'll play with it again sometime... maybe if i get it working i'll take some photos.

I thought a solution to this might be have two docking connectors on the back but I don't think there is room inside to cope. It surly would make things easier. The other option might be to have an IR (or fibre!) tranciever set on the bask of the empeg and the docking cage. This way you can transmit a lot of information quite easily. It docks easily too as there doesn't have to be a physical mating of the connectors.

seriously... you ever think about how great the empeg unit is... think of how many changes and how much evolution that the procduct can go through... without users needing new hardware!

we can experience new features all the time, and without changing the hardware or ripping our dash apart. (even the MK1 users are still very much alive still and part of the update process)

i jus think that's fantastic... and any product line that can be updated by the users is a good thing. (i wish i could use my SprintPCS phone's serial cable for more than just internet dialing... i'd love to poke around and update the ROM of my phone, too. =)

I know exactly what you mean.I'm not sure where you stepped on this train but I bought a mk1 and then upgraded to a mk2. I keep reminding people that I can update the freatures quite often and not have to pay any more (yet!). When I had my Mk1 there were some very ordinary functions such as the tuner features and only bass and treble EQ. Now it's a killer system that keeps improving. 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.1 1.1 I've considered upgrades to parts of my computer firmware such as the CD burner but never really wanted to because there is the chance (as it says in the instructions!) that the unit will be inoperable if you do something wrong!

I wouldn't have bought and empeg (let alone two) if that had been the case.
