On the other bbs that I use every single day I would never use anything other than threaded mode. I'm also one of the people who complain when flat earthers reply to the wrong message. I now remember why I don't use it here, it is no good at keeping track and showing me which posts in a thread I've read. The conversation might drift but it stays in sequence. Threaded mode, when it skips over parts of the stream, becomes confusing.
