Tom, thanks for the explanation of the orientation issue. Do you know if there's any way to fix it? It does seem to be that Windows isn't reading the data correctly, as I assume that the Dropbox app on my phone isn't doing anything to the videos, just uploading them. The videos appear correctly on my phone, but when they get viewed in Windows 7 they're all upside down. I haven't seen a single suggestion in my searching for how to fix the issue, other than opening each video in an editor, rotating it, and saving a new video. That's insane.

What specifically are you using to play back the videos on the Windows 7 machine? I'm seeing Windows Media Player bundled with Win7 (and any 3rd party app that uses it's libraries) will not respect the orientation data. Windows 8 and above does from some other reports.

Ahhh, I see the issue now. It looks like I held off updating VLC for much too long. I guess they added support for camera2 in a more recent version than I had installed. I think the problem is with Windows 7, like you said, as the explorer preview shows it upside down, but opening it in [an updated] VLC worked. Thanks!

An end (or pause) to the USB C cable tester story...

Hopefully that small company he works for can scrounge up the cash to replace the equipment that was fried so the tests can resume. I'm glad the cable didn't also harm him in the process.

This guy has turned into a cult hero. I love following him.

Needless to say, it's eminently clear that Underwriter Laboratories (or equivalent) could and should take over this particular job, and I'm sure Amazon and others could and should refuse to sell non-certified cables.

His review for the car charger still worries me about using the one I bought. I think I'm going to toss it. Unfortunately he never did a review of any other one that I know of. He also only reviewed it as a charger that wasn't good for the Pixel, but he said nothing of the Nexus 5X or 6P, so I don't know if those would be ok...
