Anyone else have a problem with your Empeg slows down and starts acting strangely with the http://rtr.ca/empeg/ kernal and 2.0b3 on a Mark II?

Mine does some weird stuff. Slows down and stops responding to keypresses. Rebooting usually fixes it...

I even reported that one to Mark, about a day before he left on his trip. I had a problem where the input would freeze and then all my keypresses would get buffered and all spill out about 60 seconds later.

Haven't had it happen lately, though. Two things to try:

1) Make sure you have his latest kernel from his web site.

2) Disable the high temperature warning.

I think that the second one fixed a few problems I was having. I think the temp-sensor-reading was locking occasionally and messing up other things. Not certain, though.

I had this happen 3 times on the 8 hour drive back home from Los Angeles yesterday (traffic on the 5 was an F'n NIGHTMARE). It would lock up and not respond to button presses, but kept playing. I had the temp warning off (it got as high as 118F though!). I had it happen one other time while it was on my desk at work but thought nothing of it. Reboots fixed it right up.

Well, mine's reached that just sitting on the desk!! I went on just a 2 hour journey yesterday and I had my temp warning turned on and set to 53C and it started alarming out. Bugger I thought, so I put it up to 55C and a few minutes later it went off again. So I put it up to 57C and guess what?... Yes it went off again after a few minutes. After this I just turned it off. I'm now concerned that something's up with my player. btw didn't have the heating on either at the time. Anyone else had it up this high?

It was noted that the temperature sensor was bad on some players. Perhaps yours is one of them.

My Empeg is not near the heating vent, but I noticed after an hour the temperature will rise quite a bit, even on a cold day.

With my wind powered empeg tm, I rarely get a temp over 40C.

I've just measured the temp of the disk drive cases at 43C which near enough agrees with Vital Signs (44C). So I guess there's nothing wrong with the sensor in the player. I've just been looking at the fans on the RS website (I don't think you have RS outside the UK) for something suitable to fit inside the player. I've found one that's only 12.8mm thick which should do the job. I'll order one on Monday when I get into work. I might even rig up a little circuit so that it only comes on above a certain temperature. If Hugo's reading this maybe he can let me know the best place to get 12V from. The fan will take about 50ma. I'd feel much happier with cooler drives.
