If anyone likes the idea of joining Hugo, Tony F and myself at Sugarbowl (near Lake Tahoe, CA) for some boarding on the 13th, drop me an email. Note - we're in the bunny class! ..although Tony is bringing his expert mate as well.

Heh, sounds like fun. I am going to be learning how to board this season after being a skier for many years.
If you ever decide to stop somewhere in Colorado, let me know...

Sounds cool. I should probably try that sometime. Considering I'm a novice enough skier that it won't affect my snow boarding. :)
Anyone ever try the those really short solomon skiis that have been around a few (5 maybe?) years? I'd like to try those this season.

Hey a snowboarding thread . . . My other obsession besides tweaking the music collection on my Rio. The player has made the weekend traffic snarls into the mountains so much more tolerable. But the best thing is having my whole collection with me whenever we stay up in a hotel or condo for a weekend.
Anyways, yeah if you're ever in Colorado . . .

Damn, I don't snowboard, but I will be on the west coast in Anaheim exhibiting at NAMM 2002 from the 13th till 21st. I would have gone just to say hello. Hopefully we'll meet up at CES somehow.

I'm THERE! I'm afraid i'll be leaving you boys in the snowdust though =].
Lemme restate that... I'm THERE (as long as there isn't a snow storm that weekend... high performance tires + lowered car = disaster)
Sugarbowl is one of my favorites too! Tony/Rob... any more details?

Already sent Rob the note, but I'm down.
Sugar Bowl is one of the better in that area and the lift prices aren't to damaging.
Look forward to seeing you guys.

And I already have plans to hit Kirkwood that weekend... Damn damn damn...
OK, so do I go to Kirkwood, where I have a season pass, and it won't cost me anything, or do I bail on my friends and go hang out with you guys up in north lake...
Hmmmm... Decisions, decisions...

high performance tires + lowered car = disaster (Assuming +snow also)
Not with the new Pilot Sport A/S!
I'm sorry... I couldn't resist that... I know they don't make them in your size, and I think that sucks. I just wanted to reiterate the snow worthiness of these high performance tires. My car is absolutely unstoppable in the snow now. It's insane.
Speaking of which, if you guys do convince me to go somehow, I would me more than willing to drive. I'm in Santa Cruz, so the Sactown hookup might be the way to go. Also, my rack holds 8 boards (It's really big), so I've got plenty of room.
Hmmm... Still weighing my options...

DOH, i left out the + snow... haha.
Actually, i haven't had a chance to test that theory, and i really don't want to. I slid around a bit in the parking lot at Mt. Rose a few weeks back, and that was enough for me.

You funny guy!
Yes, "unstoppability" is something you do want to avoid.
To clarify, my car stops very nicely in bad conditions, even on solid ice. (AWD, LSD, 4 channel ABS, etc)
Boy... You really do have to watch what you say around here...

If you're willing, I'd certainly be able to let you drive. I'd really appreciate it on the way home after a full day. I'm hardly in the condition I'd like for snowboarding right now. Do your seats recline?
Plus, you'd get to show off your car and music collection! What could be better!
I'm going to be renting, I just sold my "clucky" old gear in hopes of getting a new Palmer Honeycomb this year. I'm coming up short on that and wishing I had the old gear at this point. It'd save me 36 bucks that Sugar Bowl is going to stick to me.

Cool cool.
Well, let me check my wallet, and talk to my buddies, and by Monday I should know whether or not I should try to go with you guys.
Somebody slap me if I don't respond again by Monday.
Plus, you'd get to show off your car and music collection!
You know... Since everybody going on this trip has an empeg, people could bring along thier units, and take turns putting them in the dash, and hooking everyone else up with some new music... Just a thought...

In March of 2000 I came back to Toronto from PA in a snow storm driving on 16" Dunlop SP8000s in my Integra. Pulling a trailer with a SeaDoo on it. It was *NOT* fun. I had just changed over from my winter tires (Nokian Hakkas) two days before. The weather had been so amazing I figured it was safe. Argh! :)

If you're up for this please send me an email (got yours Ben) and I'll send back some details later today.
If you've never boarded before then come along anyway - because the same is true for me and Tony, and Hugo has only tried a few times. We'll be getting a bunny lesson while the pro's are busy posing. Sugarbowl are doing $70 for board & boots rental, 2 hrs tuition, and day pass on six lifts.

What have we decided as far as who's going and who's driving from Santa Cruz to pick me up?
Seriously, I'd like to get it all squared away. I need to know if I'm going to by driving or not.

Hey, sorry I didn't get back to you guys earlier. I hate to be a party pooper, but I'm almost positive I'm not going to be able to go. Which completely sucks, 'cause I totally want to go. I know the crew that's going is a virtual who's who of the empeg community, plus it should be interesting to see how the new snowboarding plugin works with project tfabris... Will this amazing AI create a snowboarding FAQ, too? The world will have to wait and see.
As for me, I will most likely have to miss out. I still have a few strings left, but I'm running out...
So, assume that I'm not going, that's probably the best. If somehow I do figure out a way to go, I'll let you guys know. Hopefully, I will know absolutely positively one way or the other, by Friday.

Sorry about that... i'm still trying to nail down times... depending on when my girlfriend gets off work. I think i'm going to be staying with Tony on Saturday night and heading up from there early.
speaking of which.... TONY! Heya... i was gonna email you about this tonight... but would it be cool if my girlfriend (she was at the Woodside meet) Kelly comes up and stays at your humble abode with me? If not no problemo, just let me know. Thanks again man!

Still not sure... but it may be as late as midnight depending on what time she gets off of work... she's still trying to switch shifts with someone, so i'll know by tomorrow hopefully. If that's too late i know someone i can stay with in Reno. I'd like to get there much earlier than midnight though... seeing as how you guys wanna head out at 7am.

Okay... so, she got her shift covered, so we'll be there umm... not so late. =]
2 questions:
1. How long does it take to get to your place from SF?
2. It looks like it's supposed to snow Sunday in the PM... so will making it back to SF from your house in my car be a problem?
Thanks!

3-4 hours, YMMV.
So what do you figure? 9-10pm?

Not a problem. My house is at a much lower altitude than the ski slopes, we very rarely get snow there. Weather report for Truckee shows that the precip won't be starting until Monday anyway, but even for my location it will be rain when it arrives.

sweet. The weather report i looked at showed rain/snow in Truckee Sunday PM, so i was concerned. If it's not gonna do either Sunday, I'll probably just drive up so we can leave straight from the slopes Sunday afternoon instead of heading back to your place.

anyhow... Yes, we are still coming Saturday. How far is your place from the Sugarbowl? If it's not that far, i agree, it would be much more fun to all ride up together. I'm down for that. I just don't wanna make the trip back after an exhausting day any longer than necessary. =]

Depending on weather, traffic, and the driver, it can be less than an hour. I was planning on departing one hour before the arrival time.
The "detour" to my town takes you a little ways off of I-80, but when you add it all up, it's only about a 30 minute detour compared to just driving straight down 80.
See you Saturday!

That's 3 hours the way Tony drives it. 4 hours the way I drove it with Tony in the car.
