Hi all,

Cheers for the advice yesterday. I have one more question which my purchase pins on!

Does the rio car player COME with a radio tuner? By that I mean I plug the thing in and I can listen to the radio without having to buy anything else (modular am/fm unit) It's just that I'm getting alot of contradictory advice from other websites about this modlar thing.

If you know for 100% definite, then please reply.

cheers,

Raas

No. It does not. It's sometimes available as a separate module, but I wouldn't count on getting one cheap these days.

No, it doesn't come with a tuner (unless it's a second hand Mk.1 player).

It does not come with a tuner. You need to purchase a separate tuner module, the availability of which seems to be in question. I personally have no use for the radio anymore.

ok fair play.

But the module I'm looking at states this

"With the FM Modulator you can hook up the Carplayer Jukebox to your factory stereo or any other car stereo that does not have an auxiliary input. Just connect the FM Modulator to the antenna plug on back of your current stereo, and you can transmit any audio signal to an unused radio frequency in your area (such as 88.1 FM). The sound quality will be the same as a high powered radio station."

Which sounds to me like a radio broadcaster!! Not what I want. What exactly do I need to find?

Greetings!

Different item. That is an installation aid, converting the audio and broadcasting to be picked up by your existing head unit. What you would be looking for is a tuner module for the empeg itself - a custom box that is kind of hard to find now that acts as a receiver / Sony stalk interface, and connects directly to the empeg. They are in very short supply now, and are being sold on ebay for two to three times their original price.

If you have the space in your installation (room in dash), you could alway find / buy a small / cheap tuner or radio, and hook it up to the empeg's aux inputs either through the radio's line out, or a speaker to line level converter.

You're right. Search on eBay for ``empeg tuner''. There's two right now. That's what you want. There may be more available in the future, but I wouldn't bet on it. BTW, they originally sold for $100US, so you might want to place that info in your (gouge/not gouge) factor.

This is a fm modulator for the neo. Jeremy is taking preorders now for another possible run of empeg tuners. I don't remember the website off hand, but its in the for sale forum. If you don't want to wait, Im sure there are some empeg tuners for sale on ebay.

Great.

Thanks all, I've only been looking at the empeg for a couple of days but it seems far far better than any mp3 player on the market I've seen. This forum is a perfect example of how much love people have for it.

Many thanks.

If you buy one, you will not be disappointed, unless you absolutely need a tuner and can't get one.
