I got rear-ended today and my empeg flew out of the sled and landed on the passenger side floor. Before I even got out of the car, I plugged in the Empeg and it booted up like nothing ever happened!!

I love my empeg, there's no way my home-based car MP3 player would've survived that.

Yeah the other day I came home a bit inebriated and I had left the empeg on the corner of my bed, well I just plopped down on the bed and I remembering hearing the empeg fall of and hit the floor, immediately I plugged it in and guess what she booted:)

As much as i love these anecdotes of robustness of the player, I'll point out that people shouldnt test this consciously. There are parts that will break if given the chance; like the VFD.

I remember someone posting a story somwhere a LONG time ago. The dropped their empeg out of the carry case and all that busted on it was the fascia. That is pretty impressive. I guess even if the empeg is damaged in an auto accident, I think the laptop drives are rated to like 180 Gs or something. That would liquify a human before it would hurt the data on the laptop drive...

I love my empeg too, I hope it has a long happy, healthy life.

Well, I think there's been a few, but I was one of them...

Was carrying my MkI in the empeg carry case (stupidly not with the fingers through a handle) along with a book and a bunch of loose sheets of paper.
Had the hand up by the shoulder when everything slipped, walking on concrete pavement. The empeg didn't fall out of the case, but landed on the front top left corner, breaking off the extending part of the screen. Immediately went back to the car and was very relieved that it booted and worked!

Hugo responded to my original post with an offer of a free replacement (turned out I got one of each colour!) Thanks again Hugo!

nope, it was a white Ford F350. If I wasn't in my Toyota Tundra, I'd be in the hospital.

I had the opportunity to check the no-skip feature of our favourite toy.
3 month ago, I was getting back (the best I could) with my last car, an Audi A3, from a big party with a friend, but I forgot this f**g roundabout...
I took a wall at 70km/h, and the car was completely out of order (I regret it very much, snif! :-( )

After the crash, my friend was worying about me, I was laughing... watching my -still playing- empeg, the only thing which was still working in the car indeed ;-)
I regret that I didn't take a picture of the car, this way you could realize what I mean.

I had a scare the other day. Dropped mine while walking very quickly. Forward momentum meant it hit and tumbled a good five feet before I scooped it up and ran upstairs to plug it in. Got the Rio logo and then... poor little dead Tux popped up telling me to "Contact Support". Well, not only did I not want to be Empeg-less while it was being repaired, but I was on my way out to drive up to a friend's house and I really wanted it for the long drive. So, I opened her up-- first referring to the incredibly well-written FAQ, of course-- and removed the drive platform (Oh well... Who needs a warranty, right?) only to find that the IDE cable had merely come off the pins. Reconnected it and she booted right up. WHEW!! Thanks, boys, for building such a sturdy piece of gear!!

I'm amazed by the amount of force the rear ender must have placed onto the car, because sliding out the empeg is not a slip and slide kind of a thing.
