In addition to our brand new 10, 20, and 30gig units which all have a full one year warranty, we have added a 40gig unit. All players have one drive installed inside, with room for another to be added. Keep in mind quantity is very limited on all units, I expect everything will be gone by the middle of April.

How'd you get SB to agree to warrantying a drive they didn't install?

We don't warranty the drive. We do warranty the rest of the unit due to an agreement reached with carplayer.com. If the drive fails I guess carplayer will handle it, but it's worth checking.

This only applies to units where the drive was swapped out by carplayer - the 10GB units should have the original drives in.

Correct, we take care of the drives directly. From what I am told, HD failure occurs in less than half of one percent of EMPEG units.

only 1 problem with ordering from carplayer.com - if you order from the uk they send you a unit with a US style mains adaptor.

one other problem - for international orders you have to use UPS, who arent that good i believe.

£37 isn't that much for an empeg! I got a £30 bill beause I ordered a SitePlayer development kit which is about £150!

You may want to refer back to the message about sales of 10gig players posted a few weeks ago, I am not sure if this link will work, but try it. If not, just look a few pages back in the for sale section for a post with 14 pages of replies. There are many people in the UK talking about their experiences with paying taxes, this is nothing new, VAT has been around for quite some time.

The odd thing is that 37 UKP isn't enough to be VAT (17.5%), let alone VAT + Import Duty (10%). It's more likely some random charge that UPS bolted on because the guy in document processing got stood up by his date last night.

Either way, there should be explanatory documentation with the bill.

If I had a pound every time I've been sarcastic in import duty threads I'd, umm, have enough for a few beers anyway. Come to think of it, that might be why I don't work in customer service any more.

Hmm, well I was playing devils advocate on that point - we brits are brought up on healthy sarcasm.

to be honest my gripe is with regard to the US spec mains adaptor, not the taxes / duties etc.

Hmm. As I recall, SonicBlue only ever shipped it to the US, so the fact that it's got a US mains adapter means that the "*** despatched just as sonic blue shipiped it ***" statement is accurate.

The requirements for a power supply are listed in the FAQ, here.

Finding a power supply to meet those requirements is a small hassle, I will agree, but probably less hassle than emigration.

IIRC, you can still order through the empeg world orer site and get a UK plug...
