Hi there !
To all you Mk1 owners, beeing a bit sad about the look of their Mk1 compared to the shiny new Mk2 !!!

Don't be hopeless !
I got the replacement face plate & buttons today for my Mk2 today, so i grabbed the old faceplate & buttons and went to my friend who bought my Mk1 to try out a facelift :

We just had to get rid of a little part of the -right- button and to adjust the width of the faceplate, because the handles of the Mk1 are thicker, and then the Mk2 faceplate fitted perfectly on the Mk1 !!!!!
Then we used a bit super glue to fix the rotate knob on the faceplate abd it was perfect !!
I will post a picture later on, but it just looks like a Mk2 with a thicker handle, looks GOOD !

So maybe empeg can supply some faceplates & buttons for a good price to all existing Mk1 users ...

Just to let you know ...

Nils

The knob in the Mk 1 was nonfunctional in the respect that there wasn't one

I'm guessing he glued the knob on for looks - to hide the hole. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures...

Yes i just glued it to the faceplate :-)

No Finction at all except hiding the hole ( same function that some people have for their forehead btw. :-) )

Nils

But it looks great, i will post the picture(s) as soon as my friend emailed them to me ...

Here's a way that you have an attached image show up in your post:
attach to your post, view your post, right click on the image name, copy it's location to your clipboard, then edit your message.

In the message, type this in where you want the picture, without the spaces:
< img src = "pasted_image_location" >

It'll show up like this:

-mark

...proud to have owned one of the first Mark I units

that is really sneaky!

not sure about the knob tho, maybe repaint it so people are not tempted to grab it and twist it off

Just did this with my Mk1 tonight.. now I can pretend I have the Mk2 in the car until the tuner module is available

The only problem I can see is that the original panel on the first 40 Mk2's is darker than the Mk1 display and it doesn't have the AR coating... well, I'll see how it goes in the car tomorrow - looks wicked though!

Of course, once I get the tuner and fit the Mk2 in the car, I'll put the Mk1 back to its original minimalist panel for the sake of authenticity...

Yeah, thats why my friend, whom i helped in this "face lifting" was thinking hard about returning to his Mk1 faceplate ...
He couldn't decide yet if the bad display is unbearable or just okay, so lets see if there comes something from empeg, otherwise lots of people will have forever trouble just with this detail, and at least i will start experimenting with different foils & whutevaittakes to get that thing to a standard level.

I have to admit that it's not exactly brilliant in daylight (even without the sun shining on it directly) and I didn't realise how much of a difference the AR coat makes. Putting the Mk2 panel on the Mk1 also totally hides the pulsing LED, but since it is rarely seen in the wild (the empeg is never switched off when I'm in the car) I don't miss it too much...

Apart from that, the Mk2 style really does look impressive in the dash, I can't wait to get the real Mk2 fitted, but now I appreciate other users comments about the AR coating (and I don't live in the sunniest country on earth, not by a long way!)

You should remember also that the original mk2 dark blue filter is much darker than the real production ones, and so lets about half the light through when compared to production mk2 filters...

I knew that before I tried changing the panel round, but I didn't realise how much darker it was than the Mk1 blue filter until I actually changed them over...

I'll probably change it back to the original Mk1 panel sooner rather than later, but I just had to see what the Mk2 will look like in the dash
