Does anyone know of any other Compaq (or other manufacturer) motherboards will fit in a Armada 7400? My parent's are giving me the laptop and I wanted to see if it would be possible to make it go any faster (only 366MHz PII).
The serial number is 7924CHS10680 and the exact model number is
7400 6366/T/10.0/V/M/1
Thanks in advance guys,
Justin

Unless you really need lots of CPU power then the best things you could probably do to speed it up are adding more memory and replacing the hard disk with a faster one.

I have an PII300 laptop with lots of RAM in it and it is fast enough for just about everything, but then I'm not a gamer and I can do my MP3 encoding elsewhere.

Laptop are not exactly the most upgrade friendly piece of hardware around.
Maxing out the memory with two 128MB sodimms is the easist thing you can do. You might notice a preformace gain from a faster harddrive, plus the bonus of more space.
You might be able to replace the CPU, bot more the likely not. And as for replacing the motherboard.....

That laptop does use standard mobile PII chips, but getting ahold of them is probably nearly impossible. The fastest official chip Compaq ever shipped in that model was the 366. No motherboard from another laptop will work, as the Armadas changed form factors pretty dramaticially after the 7400.

You can try to get a faster CPU, but odds are that it will either simply not work, or could cause heat/battery life issues.

AFAICR what you've said is 100% correct on this model. I made a mental note the other day to check at work if Compaq parts belonging to another geography might facilitate a worthwhile upgrade to what I assume is a US A7400 model (but forgot!) - I'd assume you've already looked in the QRG that I would use too but there's no harm double checking. If I find anything I'll report back here tomorrow but I don't see anything changing beyond what's been said here already.
Add to that, even if there is something that will yield a substantially better performance it's probably going to cost an arm and a leg anyhow

Actually, I looked in a tool that not accessable to the general public, though I did just get the newest QRG today.
