I'm not sure how desireable SA Tivos are anymore, but the deal seems good.

I'm seriously thinking about gettiong one of these (will be my first DVR). Was wondering why they wouldn't be desirable?

Most cable systems and satellite providers can furnish you with an integrated solution. That's the only reason. If you still have analog cable or an OTA antenna this is a good box. I think Series 2 SA Tivos all come with the Home Media Option now. I guess it's not an option anymore.

Well, that and hacking it is a bitch if you want to download shows out of it.

Hey Rob, do you think you could work your price-finding mojo and find a really good deal on a WUSB11? I could see my dad getting like 3 of these at that price, and the Home Media Option would make networking them a must!

I'm amazed the price is that low. I just checked about 2 days ago and the price was $100 after rebate.

Frankly, I think the SA Tivos are the most flexible. The only downside is that allthough you can control a satellite receiver, you won't get the dual tuners. Other than that, I prefer it, particularly at my stage in life, where I don't know what type of TV I'll have over the next few years.

It looks like the best bet is to get it from Amazon since they have free shipping and a $10 rebate. So, it's going to be $39.99 per unit with a limit of 2 rebates per person.

Does anyone remember which USB-10BaseT adaptor the Tivos take? I need to track one of those down...

$49 seems like a good price considering that it will outlive the analog brodcast standard.

I get the impression that there's a wide range of adapters that will work. I get the impression you mean a wired USB to Ethernet solution. I believe that solution has the most options. If you have a wireless network, apparently the Linksys WUSB11 is compatible with the Tivo. Anyway, that and an adapter are both sold through Tivo's store.

Thanks, I managed to miss that accessories page, somehow.

Oh, and I guess they can take down that Picasa software, now.

First hand experience says that you want and integrated solution if possible. I tried my series 1 in combination with a directtv receiver. It worked, but the operational result was not pretty. Channel changing is greusom (similar to my spelling). I must also say that seeing the tivo menu stacked on top of the directv menu is an experience to be avoided.
