Bravo @ 7pm = the start of the West Wing Season 5 ... My wife and I are officially addicted to this show.

I was slightly disappointed with a large part of season 5, it seemed as though the episodes just didn't have as much "oomph" in the plotting and dialouge as prior seasons had. Still great, still better than just about anything else on broadcast TV, but just not quite up to the standards set in prior seasons.

That is... Up until the end. The last few episodes of season 5 were intense. I can't wait until season 6. Anyone have any idea when they start those up on NBC?

What happens if they want to take the show into a 9th season? Hmmm...

Perhaps that's because Aaron Sorkin wrote 0% of the episodes instead of the 95% of the episodes of the previous seasons?

Makes sense. The show's writing was the best part. So is Aaron back for season 6, or is he just all done now?

Yeah. Westwing definitely lost its edge when he left. (And IIRC, some of the other original writers moved on too). I used to be enthralled by it, but now I can't be bothered to set the video.

(And yes, I would like a Tivo or ReplayTV. Blame Comcrap.)

He quit as executive producer at the end of season 4. I can't imagine he'll do anything else with it again. Of course, I've watched about four episodes and never really enjoyed it, so I could be wrong.

Wow you can definitely tell there are different writers ... Very different tone. The characters definitely are a little bit off. Not as good as Sorkin, but Still good.

I used to watch TWW all the time, but then went TV-less for about a year and lost track. Your post caused me to sit down and watch this. Zoey! Oh! (that must have been the end of season 4, eh?)

I used to ask myself constantly, rhetorically "How did we wind up with this ignorant yo-yo when we really should get somebody like Jed Bartlett?" I still ask that.

Here's a bit of a West Wing nonsequitur, though: Has anybody read "Imperial Hubris" by Anonymous? I am about 3/4 of the way through. I am not sure I agree completely with his analysis or with the prescription that I see coming, but I feel like the book has really colored how I view some things if I can judge just from watching this season 5 opener last evening.

As lovable, literate, liberal and righteous as I have always felt the imaginary Jed to be, when I watched the concluding visit to church/mass -- the deliberate communion, the sacred singing -- it really evoked Jed the Crusader.

So, is season 5 showing on Al Jazeera? How are the ratings?

Yes, if you can somehow catch the episode at the end of season 4: "Commencement", it is particularly intense in a very cool way. One of the best ones they did, I think. I don't know if it was the last or the next-to-last episode of season 4. It was written by Sorkin, of course. I'd link you to the script, but there's no way just reading the script could do it justice. There's this steady buildup of tension that's created from the way the editing is paced... it's hard to describe, but it's just brilliant.

Ah, my kingdom for a high def tivo.

I'll be watching it live on high def I think. I mean, it's already set to tivo if I miss it, but I'd really like to watch the show in high def for once...

I'd rather have a high def TiVo, but if push came to shove, I have an HD card in my Mac. Fusion 3 HDTV Gold QAM-T.

I thought it was brilliant. The moment as he's getting on the helictopter and giving Leo the instructions... Just chilling. (No spoilers for those who haven't watched their Tivoed copies yet.)

Yeah I agree ... It was a good episode. I'm not used to this one-per-week crap though. I'm totally spoiled by Bravo episodes every day.

Yeah, until you've seen all of them and you're out of episodes to watch, then it's panic time.
