My in-laws have an ancient Gateway E-4600 that they still use. They can't afford a new computer (real estate agent == broke). I'm pretty sure that XP would run much better with more than 256mb of memory, but I'm not willing to invest $150 in this thing to find out.

If anyone has some laying around that they don't need, I'd be happy to pay postage plus a reasonable handling fee if you would send it their way. Remember, this is RDRAM that has to be installed in matched pairs.

Sorry I can't offer any more incentive than that you've helped someone escape from a eternal waiting hell every time they use their computer.

Pricewatch shows 256MB RIMMs for $17.50. Is $35 too much?

Actually, the manual says it can take PC600, and those are available for $12. $48 for 1GB isn't bad.

I have two 128MB modules at work. I'll let you know details tomorrow.
