What happens during a sync

What happens during a sync - 28/04/2004 10:43

Not for any particular reason, but I think it would be good to know what each particular operation is doing, and why, during a sync process...

The table at the top of this page basically covers it.

If you need more detail, ask away.

Thanks, but I was looking for perhaps a more detailed explanation...like i said...for no particular reason except that somtimes when doing a sync after uploading some songs the entire process is not completed (the sync crashes) yet when i rebood the player in Emplode all of the songs i uploades are there Thus, if the entire sync process is not completed, but the uploaded songs are where they should be, why the seemingly unnecessary steps?

(the sync crashes)

What? emplode crashes, or the player crashes?

If emplode crashes, it makes no difference to the sync, once the files are on there, because after everything's been uploaded, emplode just says "get on with it". And if emplode then crashes, it doesn't matter, because the player just gets on with it.

Against which items? Sometimes if the player's taking too long to rebuild its database without reporting progress, emplode will give up on it and fail out the rest of the steps. It still finishes eventually.

Basically, if the player isn't rebuilding the database every time you turn it on immediately after the sync, then it all completed OK, and the only thing that didn't work is emplode refreshing from the new database on the player.
