On my Isuzu Rodeo it was under the driver's seat. Saab Viggen it's in the rear hatch area. 1993 Isuzu Trooper was under the driver's seat. Subaru SVX has it in the trunk under a false floor. On my friend's two Explorers we put it under the passenger side rear bench. Another friend with a Saab 900 put it in the rear hatch area. Same thing with another friend and his Saab 9000.

I guess I/we put it wherever it fits best as far as being out of the way and still being able to access the controls go.

Currently just have a little 640 Watt amp under the driver's seat. Easy to get at and install.

[Edit for Schido]I have a feeling the 640 is Max power output, and I only have it turned up to 2 anyway. With the empeg at -10dB it is plenty loud enough even on a motorway with the windows down and the sunroof open!

640 watt rms?? Must be a nice heated seat too then.

Under the drivers seat, not much choice in a Smart!

My two previous cars had the amp in boot/trunk.

After a lot of messing about, I found that it really couldn't go anywhere else.

Under the front seats. That's about as stealth as it can get, though it's impossible to change the settings.

On the right-hand side of the boot (trunk). See this photo from Amersfoort 2005.

In the garage, or if you aren't installing it, in your installer's garage. I've seen some people do it in parking lots, too.

/obvious?

Only the more perverse ones. I suspect most to try mount only in the privacy of their own homes.

How long does it take to cook a pizza in there?

Re: Where do most people mount there amp? - 15/12/2005 11:49

I feel your pain. I just got my new sub amp last night and it's twice as big. The old one was 9" long this one is 18". It won't fit under the rear seat. At least not as the floor pan is now .

I hate to take a hammer to my floor pan but it sure is nice to have my amps hidden.

One bit of advice. Keep the amp as close as you can to the head unit to keep noise and ground loops to a minimum.

Funny you should ask...

Those are all Class-T amplifiers, and even after running continuously for five or six hours, there is nothing in there more than lukewarm to the touch. The case of my empeg is considerably hotter than any of those amplifiers ever get.

We have two pages of posts and nobody has mentioned the problem of confusing there and their?

You people are slipping.

Mine are in the trunk. One of these days I will finish the false floor. It's on my ever-growing to-do list.

It's driving me nuts. I'm changing the initial post now so I don't have to look at it in the forum listing.

This may seem like a stupid question, but...

I've been wondering about mounting the amp on my sub. I can understand the initial reasoning why people would avoid this, but I'm wondering if the vibrations would really cause that much trouble for the amp.

My specs:
Memphis Belle 5 channel amp (Memphis Audio)
10 inch long-throw Sub wired at 1 ohm for 1000 Watts rms
This setup provides really good vibes. Should I worry about mounting my amp on it?

With a properly built/braced enclosure I believe you should be OK... And I imagine mounting it on a panel in the trunk would also expose it to vibrations...

Here's a link on the issue. (about 40% down the page)

My sub amp is mounted that way, has been for a few years, no problems. Amp manufacturer is Jensen.

I put mine under the front passenger seat. It barely fits, with about 1/2" clearance overhead. I also welded 2 one inch wide steel bars over the top so it won't get stolen if someone breaks into my car. My subs are attached to my car by locks as well.

Here's hoping the amp never breaks down then!

Re: Where do most people mount their amps? - 18/01/2006 12:12

ok...i finally got it installed, but I asked the people who put it in (best buy) to put it underneath the passenger side seat if possible, but they put it in the trunk.....and crooked nonetheless. I think it would've fit just fine under the seat....
