disable standby led - 21/01/2002 22:45

background:

it was a dark and stormy night. i was returning from an enlightening conversation concerning my empeg and all of the cool things it could do: emptris, hijack, ftp, http, displayserver, picker, vnc, just to name a few. and there i was - face to face with my electronic-ed to the max vehicle after the sun had set. the darkness could only mean one thing... oh no! not lycanthropes again! on my newfound friend was yet another blinking light visible by a would be usurper of electronic mayhem and bliss. drat! should i rip apart the rio and remove that pesky light emitting diode? naww... I will call upon the brilliance of the unofficial empeg car/rio car programmers!

help!

disable standby led

Well, two ways you can fix this...

1) Put a piece of black electrical tape over the LED.

or

2) In emplode, reduce your standby time to 1 second.

you could set the shutdown timer to 1 second so the player just shuts down right after you turn the car off

It is possible to tell the LED to do other things: flash in a different way, even turn off. But it involves some programming and stuff. How keen are you!?

Or even better, remove the unit from the car before someone nicks it !

I don't understand how people can leave their empeg in the car, in dash and walk away.

I'd like to know how to turn off the LED. The slow blinking is kind of annoying at night when I've got it plugged in at home!

I have used pieces of shrink-tubing around the LED on my player to reduce its perceived size. My Mk1 player is now a home player mounted near my television set, and I have reduced the visible part of the LED to a mere pinpoint so that it doesn't distract us when we watch a movie.

For those who are "keen"....

Doesn't look easy.

Speaking of movies, it'd be neat if the player had a video output and you could download ripped DVD's.

I already asked for this kind of feature and Rob answered me that it is not a wish for this kind of automotive market.

Er, the link *is* in the message you replied to (bold orange text), but here it is again.

Sorry, in the case you read email digests: http://empeg.comms.net/php/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=empeg_general&Number=45643
