do i have anything to be concerned about...v1.03?? - 08/02/2002 17:22

Today, for the first time, my rio froze. I was playing an mp3 that I have listened to probably a dozen times, so I don't think that it is the mp3. I was just going through the sound menu, and it froze. I just pulled the unit out, let it reboot, and the song resumed where it froze. No other problems since.

Probably not, but i think anyone will need more details to say for sure.

How long have you had the empeg?
Are you running 1.03 (or were you asking about going back to that ver)?
Did it stop playing or just stop responding to inputs?
Can you reproduce the problem by repeating your steps?

Good luck (its probably fine)

My friend Tod has the same problem. It was more frequent when he used 2.0 beta 7, but it continues to happen to him with even 1.03.

Here is the thread I created to discuss the problem. No one else responded to it.

On my player, I never got these lockups in 1.03, and lockups were rare for me in 2.0 beta7. I haven't had any lockups in Betas 9, 10, or 11.

So I am suspicious it might be the hard disk cable problem. Tonight, if he lets me, I will swap his drive to the secondary spot and hook it up to the other connector. Will let everyone know how it goes.

I have had my empeg running for 3 months without a glitch and have always ran ver 1.03. If memory serves me correctly, it would respond to pressing buttons, but would not play mp3s. I have not been able to reproduce the problem, although I did try.

Again, this is an isolated incident (I hope). It has never happened before. Maybe, just maybe, it was just a glitch.

Thanks for your input so far!

I had mine lock up once and nothing would get it to come back to life except for a cold boot. I was running 1.03 at the time. If it was a hard disk cable problem then it shouldn't happen again. My players were sent off to empeg to have my 10Gb and 60Gb become a 40Gb and 30Gb to keep the warranty.

I'll keep an eye on it to see if the lock up occurs again.

I just can't imagine that happening -- a computer that for no good reason just froze.

I tell you, this sort of thing would never happen if you got rid of that silly Line-X operating system and went to something mainstream like Windows where they've had over a decade to get all the bugs out.

I've had my Rio60 locking up with v1.03 too. This has happened both in the car and in house. The player just stops and is not responsive to me pushing buttons. I don't know what's causing it, and it can only be cured by powering down the player and re-booting it.
Yesterday I've flashed the player with a beta (2.11) for the first time (I wanted to have most of the bugs ironed out before I used one) and so far I haven't had any problems other than a synch error. (which only happened one time)

So far I'm absoutely loving all the new features, infoscreens and visualisations! If the players starts acting up though, I'll make mention of it on this board.
