FS: Cable modem router - 16/08/2002 07:52

Hello there,

Since I moved house and got ADSL, I no longer require the services of my Linksys router, so I've ebay'ed it.
It cost me £80, 6 months ago so I'll let it go for £40. It worked faultlessly on my NTL cable modem connection, so shouldn't present too many problems for even the most novice of computer people to get going. So come on, make my day...

From the auction:
Moved over to ADSL and bought modem and router combined

I have one of these from ZyXEL in a closet somewhere. It is pretty cool to have both in one.

Since the new ADSL modem has a router in it already. I can't really see the point in having two...

I didn't really have much choice, I either got a USB modem and rely on one of my computers to act as router 24/7 (rather a waste of electricity if you ask me). Or, I could buy a modem and router in one. Because the old cable modem was presented as ethernet the linksys went straight on. I couldn't find an ADSL modem with ethernet presentation that didn't have router as well.
I suppose it makes sense really, if a manufacturer goes to the trouble of making ethernet available I suppose theres not much more in the way of hardware or software to add 'basic' router functionality as well.
