Panel dilemma

Panel dilemma - 02/10/2001 16:30

I'm looking for an amber one to match my new car's controls. I already have a red panel that was delivered with the empeg and an AR coated green one.

Unfortunately the empeg store now only offers a set of three (red, green and amber) panels. As I already have two out of those three, I strongly hesitate to order it.

Is there anyone out there, who is interested in the (brand new) red and/or green panel from this set? Or does anyone have an amber one he would like to sell or swap for one of the panels I already have? Or does anyone have any other idea how I can get an amber panel without buying two panels I have absolutely no use for?

Re: Panel dilemma - 02/10/2001 16:45

You should be able to order Blue panels separately via a call to empeg support. They're not in stock yet, but they will be soon. That would cover you for all colors. Plus, you'd have spares at that point.

They're not that expensive... and I know there's some redundancy for you in that purchase scheme. But personally, I'd want to get extras since the EOL announcement...

Do you have any photos of the custom fascia?

Hey Paul.
I've only experimented with the Mark I's fascia so far since the response to me possibly supplying them for the Mark II's was luke warm at best.

I've made a few for the Mark I but I only have one in pictures which is on the page showing the different colors of lenses.

The custom fascia in my sig is actually referring to the fact that I'm using a Mark II fascia modified to fit on my Mark I.

Well I dunno about custom fascia, but I think with the RioCar going EOL, and the Empeg guys saying that fascias aren't plentiful in stock, it might be nice to have an "aftermarket" source for Mk II fascia's in the style of the original. My MkII's fascia matches my dash color perfectly, but I am sure it will crack some day.

I guess I missed that post about your custom fascias where's it at?
I'd be interested since the EOL. What did they look like?

Curious as to how your player came w/a red lens, I thought they all came with a blue one, which I sorely miss now it's the only one I'm missing. I have an ambe lens but don't want to give it up, sorry.

I don't think you guys get what I'm saying.

My Mark II fascia that I'm using now is an original that I modified to fit.
I haven't made any Mark II's yet though I have a couple of ideas, also keep in mind that if I do start experimenting with Mark II fascia they won't look like the originals since the originals are injection molded. Mine would be machined.

Re: Panel dilemma - 03/10/2001 16:37

I thought they all came with a blue one

If you ordered a Mark1, or if you ordered a Mark2 early enough, you were allowed to choose which lens you wanted.

Only with the Rio Car did they start shipping them all with a blue lens.

My personal opinion: All units, ever since the Mk1, should have shipped with a full set of lenses to begin with. My guess is that the amount of administrative hassle required to deal with all the different lens requests far outweighs the miniscule profits they might have made by selling them individually.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I agree, especially w/small items that aren't all that expensive, given the low production run involved.
I guess Darkstorms business will pick up after SB's inventory of lenses are gone.

I get it...........so when wil we be expecting to see the first batch?

Personally, would like to see something like in your lens photos of the Mk1, a stainless steel/brushed aluminum look to match my dash. I wouldn't even mind if it blocked more off like the Mk1 version, I guess it would be except for the knob allowance.

The screens ARE expensive. There was no way we could justify the additional cost to the BOM, especially as a relatively low percentage of customers change the colour.

Okay, not sure if you are set now, but I have an amber that is brand new (from the kit) and would trade for a green, as that is my primary color and a back up would definitely be a good thing :) Let me know...

yes, but none of your colors match my cockpit much better than the panels I already have

Re: Panel dilemma - 04/10/2001 14:54

When I ordered my empeg (that was still its name at that time ;)) about a year ago, when my place in the queue had come, you could choose between the four colors.

Re: Panel dilemma - 04/10/2001 15:05

Well, in fact I did not know about the EOL when I posted the request. Since I knew I was actually thinking about ordering the set to have some replacement parts, as Tony suggested.

But I guess two panels and the option to order panels from DarkStorm if necessary should be safe enough. So I'm interested in the trade.

At least the panels would not feel to unfamiliar, mine were built into two different Toyotas as well ;)

Re: Panel dilemma - 04/10/2001 16:44

I going by the amount charged for the lot of three which to me wasn't that expensive. I believe DarkStorms (not to say at all that his are too expensive for I couldn't do them myself and I really appreciate his endevours) are somewhat less than that for one lens. I'm using this as the only comparison I know of.
Damn.

Re: Panel dilemma - 11/10/2001 11:50

Greetings!

When these were initially sold by empeg Ltd. before Sonic Blue came along, individual lenses / panels were sold at about $35 each. That is where the original pricing came from, I think.
