IBM 60Gb Hard Drives... where do you buy??? - 04/03/2002 18:32

Hi Guys.

Anyone got any recommendations and prices for IBM 60Gb HDD's to fit the Empeg???

Maybe it is difficult because I am in Australia, but I have been looking and not many places have them.

Am I looking in the wrong places???

Only one place is listed at pricewatch.com ... other than that, all I know about is Dell.com. I'm sure Dell would ship internationally. Heck, they are made in your parts of the world... I'd think you'd get them first like you get all the cool Asian cars! Good luck.

I have a feeling that within a month they will be pretty common. The 40Gb drives have been creaping down in price which is a good sign.

If you are replacing a 48 or 40gb drive... lemme know and I'll buy your old one.

Looks like another vendor finally is selling these 60gb travelstars on Pricewatch. They are selling them for $499 instead of the $549 of the original seller. These are stil wicked expensive, but I'd say a $50 drop is significant. The prices of the 40gb drives have been trickleing down too.

What will be really cool (other than more sellers getting 60gb drives) is when Fuji or someone else releases a competeing model. When that happens, 40 and 48's should go for close to $110.

Greetings!

It was actually a far better deal when I got them. There was a short window where Dell was offering them as OEM upgrade components. Same drives, but because they were Dell branded (not really, the drives have IBM Travelstar written all over them...) and sold with the laptop caddies, they were $400 per. I don't know if that offer is still around, but that is where I picked mine up.
