I have Faith No More - 10/09/2002 09:44

...in the current music scene. As posted on a friend's message board:

In reply to:

I don't know how many Faith No More fans there are amongst us, but I just heard some retarded news that there currently is a tribute album in the making containing tracks from just about every "new metal" act around. Fred Durst apparently wanted to go on tour with all these bands and a reunited FNM. I really hope that don't happen! anyways just got under my skin a tad.

Faith No More is fan-fu*king-tastic. Fred Durst would surely ruin the good name the band left the scene with. I (thankfully) got to see their farewell tour. Best... show... ever.

I'm taking you at your word that they are good. I just went out and bought 'The Real Thing' and 'Angel Dust'. I'll give them a listen tonight.

Whoa blast from the past. They haven't released anything in years... many years. Mike Patton lives here in the Bay Area and has moved on to Mr. Bungle and a few other personal projects... most of which are way insane. Scott (fellow empegger) has a few of his recordings... one was made with a 4 track in his hotel rooms while on tour with Mr. Bungle using only his voice. I'll give you $5 if you can listen to it all the way through.

Mike will pop up every once and a while and play a small show in SF. Haven't seen his name in a while though.

Wow, you never heard Faith No More? I don't listen to music radio very much and I still hear 'Epic' played very often.

Out of all my friends, it seems they either love FNM or hate them. I think they're great.

I have it. It's called 'Adult Themes for Voice' (I think). I have listened to it all the way through. I don't accept PayPal, so how do you want to do this?

you have to do it in front of me... which will never happen because i can't make it all the way through in one sitting... so i guess your screwed .

Mike Patton is an amazing maniac.

Report back when you've had a few listens. FNM is an incredible band, mostly due to Patton's manic energy. If you *really* like your two new albums, check out his next largest project 'Mr. Bungle'. It's like insane circus music crossed with a transgender Elvis act, but it grows on you.

Mr. Bungle rules. Their Super Mario Bros. cover is one of the best ever done of that song. I never really listened to FNM though.

Ugh. I mean it's fun music, but I can't take Bungle for long. I get two or three songs in, and then skip to the couple that I like, and that's it. I'm done with the album in about 15 minutes.

FNM on the other hand, I had a tape of "The Real Thing", if you can believe that. There was a time where I had every word, drum hit, and guitar and bass note completely memorized. I think I listened to it 100 times, actually 200 perhaps. I still have almost all the words memorized

Yes. FNM is my alltime favorite band. The Real Thing was the first CD I ever owned, and I think Angel Dust is one of the greatest albums of all time. Mr. Bungle is good. You may want to try their latest, California - it's a bit more listener friendly. Also, I like Patton's other side project, Tomahawk. They are currently on tour with Tool. As far as the reunion with Limp Bisquick and all those other crap metal bands, that's a joke. Here's an excerpt from a recent interview with Patton:

So you’re not a fan of rap rock?

"It’s just not very interesting," declares Patton. "It’s not even interesting enough to be hateable. It’s like wall paper."

That's funny... I hate Limp as much as the next guy, but they did open for FNM at Roseland in NY when I saw them. It was before they got rich off that Wham song. The crowd wasn't getting into them and Fred Durst got angered. He started imitating the crowd that was just standing around. As if we were the ones with the problem.

Re: I have Faith No More - 11/09/2002 06:21

You definitely want to get "Live at the Brixton Academy" - some of their best high energy madness ever! Mike's lunatic rendition of Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs' is possibly even better than Ozzy's (I know, that's pretty close to blasphemy)

Before playing any gigs or jamming I have two tracks to warm up: for my left hand "Midnight" by Joe Satriani, and for my right arm "Surprise, You're Dead" by FNM.

After those two, you're ready for anything!

Especially the guitar solo. That is just perfect
