ide extension/converter - 30/05/2003 14:42

anyone know of any place that sells male-to-female 40/80pin ide converters? i need it for a project. quick google search doesnt yield any results. thinking that i might have to crimp them myself, or call the company that custom makes the ide cables for empeg.

Be careful...the spec for IDE isn't that long (I'm thinking 18 in.) I've heard of a couple people running them as far as 15ft., but you'll have widely varying success depending on the board and/or drive that you use. I'm sure Mark Lord could tell you more...

There are actually only 39 pins in an ATA66/100/133 connector; and 78 conductors in the cable because each pin is individually grounded instead of all pins sharing one ground (If I recall correctly). What exactly are you trying to do? Trying to McGuyver something together with the old 40 pin ATA connector and ATA66/100/133 devices could be troublesome.
