Venice Sinking - 24/12/2003 10:03

I was watching Nova last night and there was a special on Venice Sinking.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/venice/

I found this rather disturbing especially since according to the program no one can decide what to do about it even though there seem to be options. Anyone in the area that might have some comments about this?

Its scary to think that in 100 years there could potentially be no more Venice.

I knew there were issues with flooding but I didn't realize it was that bad.

Well, I don't think that we really have to worry about it. At least not after 2014 anyway.

p.s. I know it's old news. :|

Not really news, it's been in the works for centuries. But there's at least one more city this should happen to.

You could make a mint by buying up the Y2K scare supplies and then reselling them for the Y2K+14 scare

It's sinking, but they're also building an underground railway, weird!
Birmingham, UK has more canal than Venice and I believe that's also true of Amsterdam.

Well, Venice is such a tiny city. I am amazed at how small it really is, something like 3 square miles. And I am sure it is a lot prettier than Birmingham.

it is a very pretty place, but when they are dredging the canals (which they do on a continual basis) the surrounding area sure does stink!
